Rivers - Doesn't look 100%

TMac - Hardly sighted

Weide - Well blanketed

Hunt - Bright start, faded

Right there is your problem - nobody knows what he can consistently deliver because even when he has given consecutive games he failed to lock down a position - so we really have no clear idea what his "known form" is

I'm not saying he doesn't deserve another crack next week just that we should not be reconfiguring our whole forward structure around him - he needs to find a way to work with any structure , any week

My personal view is that he looks a significantly better player when allowed to run onto the ball (leading with space in front) - he is very easily pushed aside by key defenders and is never going to succeed relying on contested marking. If there is away to free up that space without compromising the ability of other forwards to contribute then great. Fritta seems to be able to make this work with astute timing for his leads and clever positioning around the drop of the ball.

One of the big challenges for Sam is to ensure that each time he takes the field he walks off having made a meaningful contribution as is the case with the whole squad. This doesn't always have to be measured on goals kicked but the gap between Sam's better games and poorer performances remains significant

Yeah as I have said, here and on the old Ology  ,Weid leads well and can kick it too.

If you can't catch it under pressure and you have had years and years of time to establish a place in the mix then you are either  just depth ,waiting for someone to retire or a list clogger.

How long did they pick Weid at the expense of BBB  before he got a chance and took it?

The" give him a chance" argument is laughably back to front

Super professional win

Spot on Bin. An absolute defensive masterclass. That last quarter was just us conserving energy - we had closed shop by then.

Weideman drew a lot of attention from a spruced up backline of Port.

Two multiple goal kickers in our forward half.

His first half was good. He did a lot of work up the ground, a la McDonald. We hardly had the ball in the forward line in the last quarter and he played with pressure in the third. I think people judge him harshly for the wrong reasons on this site.

Here's my 2 cents

May - much better performance

Harmes - reward for effort

Petracca - hard tag again

Jackson - solid game again

Viney - hard as nails

Lever - welcome back Rick

Spargo - not his best

Brayshaw - Mr reliable again

Gawn - destroyed his opposition

Oliver - well below best

Langdon - absolute running machine

Bowey - still hasn't lost

Tomlinson - not yet convinced

Jordon - really good game

Rivers - question on fitness

TMac - second best forward

Weid - never got going

Hunt - clubs best golfer

ANB - second efforts great

Fritta - some good cameos

Sparrow - clone of Viney

Kozzie - love his pressure

Spargo was terrific in the first half and always there with pressure and precise delivery in the last half. Boy, what does a player have to do?

Sorry but I gotta put in my 3 word comment for Sam Weideman.

Disappointing effort tonight.

After last week kicking 4 goals against Essendon I held high hopes he would contribute. I barely noticed him tonight.

That performance was regretfully and expectedly going to happen. He must adapt to putting in (at least) - because of the excellence of his teammates delivery to him - several consecutive games of earnest desire for the ball demonstrated by the one and two percenters should an outright mark not eventuate, novel leading to space and general lead directions, improved short-game passing by hand and foot, anticipated teamwork options. At the moment, he seems to be playing for himself, not the team about him in the crunches. Importantly in these processes, he must realise that he has an obligation to all, is accountable for ground space(s) and physically, should not tolerate being bumped or jostled out of his best line in his best presentation for the ball.

Have you seen the scoreboard? 14 goals, both sides, for the game. Three blokes kicked 7 of them...

It was one of those nights. Port weren't bad, actually, just couldn't get their forwards organized.

Last time I looked it was at the Adelaide oval.

Kozzies kicked 3 this year and Charlie has one.  No where near last years pace.

They have been excellent at the 1%ers but the 90%ers come first - kicking goals, which adds pressure on its own.

And in defense of Spargo I think he is playing higher up the ground.

And No I am not calling for either of them to be dropped.

We've had four comfortable wine: others have kicked the goals. Kozzie and Spargo are still vital cogs.

Spargo has twice in last 2 weeks been within 30 metres with open space and tried to pass to a player in the goalsquare 🤦🏻‍♂️
3 words - kick the goal !!!

couldn't get their forwards organized. I would say weren't allowed to by the best organised defence in the league for years

Kossie might benefit from dropping weight ( perhaps muscle)

That's how you destroy him.

Brown in and Tom managed, giving Weid another crack.

Weid just needs to get a few games and build confidence.

He could have kicked 6 last week.

Tom hasn't looked like that for  quite a while.

Our delivery into the forward line was poor last night and didn't help Weid.

Yea you make a good case.

I've changed my mind....sorry Tom.

Yea, I guess we know we don't need percentage when we keep winning. Keep racking them up.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
