How is the 50m rule going?

Saw one against Pies for time wasting. Don't think any for 'abuse'.

Demonlanders are a funny lot.

Change the narrative when it suits them.

I'm one of those supporters who was unimpressed and underwhelmed with a number of players from Thursday night's performance against the blues. It highlighted arrogance and a bit of immaturity again.

You see, the same demonlanders were lauding our ferocious, full contact training hit outs in the build up to our prelim and Grand Final matches.. But the same amount of risk is associated in those training sessions as there is in a practice game.

However as soon as we're made to look foolish, disorganised, ill disciplined and lacking intensity and skill level, the same group will make an excuse to say "it's only a practice game and we clearly don't care".

Makes little sense if you ask me and it's not the win or loss I care about. It's the manner in which a number of our key players presented themselves on gameday.

Why would we go harder for longer against North and then not against Carlton? The talk from our club has long been we train how we play and that is with peak intensity. Always. It's about respecting the game and opposition. No?

What the nuffies forget is that practice games are about tuning up for round 1 and the closer you get to round 1, the higher the intensity levels go. I would say that based on our last game and the doggies last game, they have had far better preparation for our round 1 Grand final rematch. Their game against Brisbane was the complete opposite of ours and for that I think they go in with an advantage.

I won't be shocked if they jump us because of this. And for us, early season momentum and establishing ourselves as the benchmark is what we must be hell bent on doing if we want to challenge again and keep sides at bay. We want to remain intimidating when opposition come up against us. That can so easily fall away if we start slowly.

So while the result against Carlton means nought, the prep for our lead in may take a hit. Beverage is the kind of bloke who would use that game against Carlton as a reference point to charge up his side pointing out that we looked arrogant, lazy and sloppy. Other teams can do that too.

So it's more than just a practice game.

After watching our some what sloppy game even I thought geez we are a bit slow so I would like to ask any track watchers between the North game and Thursdays game I wonder if the players were loaded up on training and now will spend the next week or two weeks on normal training routines to run into the first round.

Gold Coast have got the goalkicking yips. They should be six goals in front.

Don't see much evidence of a change in Geelong's game plan. They still chip it around and allow the opposition to flood their half of the ground.

Ha ha, duckin Danger...nearly got away with it but one of the umps was awake.

Suns look pretty decent.

They might struggle with key position players but their young midfield looks much improved.

Have been mine for decades.
The grand final will forever be my favourite game of all time, but the smashing we handed Geelong in the prelim is a very very close second.

grand final, 2021 > r23, 2021 > preliminary final, 2021

round 23 was glorrrious

Nah Preliminary Final was much better than Round 23

Jeelong were never in it. Their GF Dream was obliterated

Round 23 was fantastic but it was an empty Stadium…

Toohey was also let off the hook

GCS thrashed the cats in the middle.  Very easy centre clearances.   Witts was placing the ball perfectly.  Among their other issues Geelong will suffer from not having an excellent ruckman.

They were defensively woeful near GCS goals.  And not so great around the ground.  They were like witches hats at time.

Can't read to much into practice games but it didn't look like they had fixed some weaknesses.

Curious - where would you rate the 2018 Elim Final relative to the 2021 Prelim?

I am curious why you would even think of that question!!

First test for AFL resolve on head high contact coming up.  Colllingwood have appealed Maynard's 2 week suspension.

If they want any cred on desire to eliminate head injuries they have to hold their ground.

Tribunal stands firm.  Maynard to miss two games.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
