Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Agree. I don't care if they dont want to pay out his contract and not sack him until the end of the year. Fact of the matter is, we won't win many games Under him as coach. Testing year, good thing is we'll see who really is a good player and which players dont want to be there. WE'll also get some decent picks...but...19 weeks left.

I still feel we can rock the boat next year, a little at least, but we don't want to be starting with a new coach in '08 who hasn't had a head start with this group. I think it would be a good idea for a new coach ( presuming we can't get a MATTHEWS or a SHEEDY) to have at least 2 months (8 H & A matches to recognise what players he's got) to realise our strengths & weaknesses from the "inside".

It just feels maybe the players don`t respect him as a coach, especially the leadership group.. He has served the club and hopefully he can turn it around, but a new coach is on the cards..

100% he has served the club well...but 10 years without a flag...spells time for a new coach. And yeah it would be good to get the coach we want for 08 to have a couple of months with the guys but then again, ross lyon didnt and he has transformed st kilda- shame about their injuries, yet they have still won a couple. I still think a longmire would be better than a sheedy or matthews...wouldn't want them.

As much as I agree he has to go, he has done alot for the club and doesn't deserve to get shafted mid-year imo.

Spot on!

Whether you think he should be replaced as coach or not, Daniher definitely deserves supporters respect. He has never been anything but pro MFC in his whole time as coach, and if nothing else his deserves to be treated well.

Booting him out mid season would be pretty poor form.

I have been one of his harshest critics for some years now, but he should still be allowed to serve out his contract. He has done his best and has spruiked hard for the club. It's just a shame he's a mediocre coach.

Paul Garner has already positioned the club on Danihers future. He will serve out his contract.

Yep. He should serve out the rest of the year, and the board should start planning 'in house', who will be the next coach. If Reilly or Curran takeover, they wont revamp our list much, whereas if Longmire comes in, he will be more likly to do a bit of spring cleaning. i.e ward, wheatley, possibly godfrey and others that if they dont pull their fingers out (yze, white) will be delisted

Just get rid of him ASAP

Any alternative has got to be better.

I came to this conclusion at half time today when my 12 Year old son looked @ me & said

i should have taken the extra shift i was offered at work >.<

i dont agree with the whole get rid of daniher now mentality.

it wouldn't be good for the team.

its not his fault they cant kick, cant tackle, cant bloody mark and we've got a debilitating injury list.

stop making daniher a scapegoat - its injuries & players that are the problem.

About the sharpest comment on this thread.

I think the Board and ND could come to a decision prior to year end as I think the Board should be canvassing potential coaches prior to year end to allow a new incumbent time to stocktake the list, appoint a new coaching panel and actively participate in the draft and trade period.

FWIW, Bizzell and PJ will be out of contract at year end. I cant see either getting a new contract. Its a pity we can only get rid of 6 or so.

Yes - perhaps you should have stayed home - you could have spent the afternoon teaching your son about LOYALTY!

Norm Smith would struggle to get a win out of the side we are able to field at the moment - take away players of the calibre of Neitz, Robbo, McLean, Rivers, Sylvia, Bartram, etc, etc, from any side and the too would struggle.

The past few years we have promised a lot and then been hit by injuries towards the end of the season - maybe we are getting all the bad luck early and will wind up with a huge end of season - the right end!!!

Anyone else share my optimism or are you all jumping off the bandwagon?

I am trying to be objective.

The injuries alone are enough to derail the team.

The lack of leadership and form from alledgedly "star" senior players crucifies us.

The next four weeks will be as difficult as anything MFC faced in 1996/1997.

We are just an outside chance for the 8. An outside one at that. Forget about Top 4!

As it is so early in the season, a few massive wins would turn that around straight away - the problem is getting those few massive wins!

Have enjoyed reading all your posts having just found the forum, as a Dees follower since 1969 I have seen all of this happen before. MFC has a culture where its best is very good but its worst is very very bad. It is very frustrating to follow them ! However we all need to take a deep breath and accept that the next few weeks will be tough. It will turn around but we will be lucky to be in the run for 7th or 8th place at best this year. Once we get a win or two on the board things will look a bit better. They are better than they are showing now. But ND has to try something different, running around in circles handballing to each other won't do it.

AGREED!! whos kicking the goals needed for those wins?

i'm starting to think that we'd have more of a chance if we fielded sandy's premiership team from 04-05-06

DemonDoug - my mother has been a demon since she was born. her first 25 years of supporting we didnt make the finals... (she was 2 in 1961)... and she still goes every week! thats loyalty.

where i was sitting today (under the clock) there was a lot of negativity happening. we have to stop turning on our own..

cheers to the guys who stood up when we finally reached five goals & showed a bit of enthusiasim - PLEASE keep it up.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
