I have the feeling we will surpass the 70k mark next year, regardless of the outcome of this year's finals.

Was hoping for 65,000+ members.

But nevertheless 62,813 (so far) is an amazing effort for the Melbourne Football Club. Congratulations to all those loyal Melbourne Demons supporters have have signed up!

As I mentioned previously, I remember the days when we were happy to get at least 20,000 members.

How times have changed and it just goes to show that you not only need to win Premierships but you must have sustained success over many decades to compete with the likes of Collingwood, Richmond, Essendon, Carlton and Hawthorn.

I am hopeful that we are on the right track to eventually have over 80,000+ members in the future. But it will take time and more Premierships!

I remember when l was a university student in the 1970s, and l used to do a barman’s job on game day at the Hawke’s Club house next to Glenferrie Oval. . Inevitably you talked to the increasingly drunk members after the game. At that time they despaired about their low membership (from memory about 25,000) and would make very rude remarks when l said l was an MFC/MFC  member which l think was about 30k at the time. Their attitude was that the Melbourne establishment was against them and they will never be allowed to exceed their 30k ceiling. How wrong they were as they became a power club with their current membership l think above 80k, and generally regarded as one of the five “power clubs” of the AFL in Victoria.

My point is that if they can do it so can we. The critical points are on-field success and good administration. I think we now have both, and for what it is worth l predict by 2025 our membership will exceed 100k and be above the Hawks, and so we can take our rightful place as a power club of the AFL. For what it is worth l also predict there will be declines in membership of some of the so called power clubs over the next five years viz Carlton, Hawthorn, Richmond and Essendon! Good riddance…..

Consistent Finals appearances with Successful Campaigns.
Just look how many kids are now wearing Demons Jumpers. Success = Popularity.

Last Friday was a great example

Fremantle failed Dismally

We put the foot down

I think/hope that Goodwin is positioning the side for success as we run into the finals as we did last year. It will be more difficult this year as we are the hunted rather than the hunter, also injuries/form is not as good, and neither is our coaching - at least from the outside. Still l remember expressing similar doubts this time last year and look what happened.

The next three weeks will be critical though. We can only hope l guess!

I am talking 5-10-15 years of sustained success. Friday and Saturday night regular exposure, not just this year. Although this year is looking good so far

I thought Hawthorn's tally would be much higher. Fair whether...?

Just a heads up: demonstone would like a word in your shell-like.

Something about whether you know the difference between short term manifestations of climate and the word "whether".

65,990 - here we come.!!!

DD I’m thinking they are already in the bag.💕

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
