You mean no. 2 to be put in mothballs for a while, not 'retired'? Will Woewodin junior get his old man's 22?

Wouldn’t he wanna keep the number he wore in a Premiership winning side?

Maybe, but I'd give him the chance if he wants it

I also don’t believe in placing such reverence on any jumper number, despite how respected/adored/long-serving a player was. It’d likely put too much pressure on the player who is chosen to wear that number. Unnecessary pressure. Imvho, anyways.
But yeah, if Tom wants the no. 2, I can’t see why he shouldn’t be given that.

werridee, i want to duel, first one to type a post in all caps loses...u vs me should u choose to accept.

and as i said in another thread id be giving the numbers out

2. Dunstan 21. van Rooyen  22. Woewodin   27. Howes   39. Moniz-Wakefield

Interesting Petty has pushed Adam out. I agree and forget that Petty is still very young.

And DUNSTAN.

I haven't really followed him but I'm glad you rate him. Sounds like the club has done well picking him.

He should stick with 32. Think of the fans.

I'm still stuck with 37 on my jumper for big Maxy.

I still chuckle sometimes when I see Spartacus wearing number 9 which I still makes me think of Neitz. It's a big contrast but I'm starting to like him just as much. It couldn't have been easy for him to get where he has given his size.

Yes, Tommy should stick with number 32, it’s his premiership winning jumper after all.
Cam Bruce went alright and of course there are some famous players from other teams in the number 32: Timmy Watson, Mark Riccuito, Buddha Hocking and Paddy Dangerfield.

I think Nathan Jones should decide what happens with highly esteemed number #2 jumper.

Personally, I like the idea of Bailey Laurie getting number #2 as he used to wear it with the Oakleigh Chargers and number #16 hasn't been too lucky for Bailey so far with his injuries in 2021.

Otherwise, either Jacob van Rooyen or Blake Howes could be worthy recipients of the number #2 jumper.

One final cheeky suggestion is to wait until Tim Taranto leaves GWS and offer it to him when he comes to the Demons! 😁

i would think:
2 - van rooyen (time for a tall to take it over)
21 - dunstan (third second hand player in a row to have it)
22 - woewodin (seems a natural fit)
27 - howes (next available)
39 - moniz-wakefield (continuing the indigenous tradition)
40 - mcvee (next available)

i'm not changing our 22 (+1) from the team that won the premiership, so...

starting squad...
B: Hibberd - May - Lever
HB: Rivers - Petty - Salem
C: Langdon - Petracca - Brayshaw
HF: Neal-Bullen - McDonald - Spargo
F: Fritsch - B Brown - Pickett
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
I/c: Harmes - Jackson - Bowey - Sparrow
Medi-sub: Jordon
Emerg: Dunstan - Weideman - Hunt

next...
B: Hunt - Tomlinson - J Smith
HB: D Smith - Turner - Rosman
C: Baker - Dunstan - Bedford
HF: Melksham - M Brown - Laurie
F: Van Rooyen - Weideman - Chandler
Foll: Daw - Jordon - Woewodin
I/c: Howes - Moniz-Wakefield - McVee

decided not to leave the casey players in, but you'd imagine mitch white (the captain), james munro, cory stockdale, jack hutchins, cory machaya, tom freeman, and the promising corey elllison will still be key players

Edited by whatwhat say what

One of the more grating aspects of the ‘red and blue print’ era at the MFC was that every nominally key player had to have a famous number. Watts had Norm Smith’s 4. Scully got Barrass’ 31 before it being given to Grimes to remove the foul taste of Voldemort’s departure from the club from the number. From memory, they were pumping up number 9 for Trenners because of Neita and Brian Dixon.

Can’t we just let people make their own history?

I think Woewodin wants to create his on path no 22 will be in the shadows of his father. Father sons don't usually take the number of their old man. Stretch didn't Viney didn't.

2. Vacant (for now)

21. Van Rooyen (swingman, just like Pedersen)

22. Woewodin (old man's jumper)

27. Dunstan (wore 7 at St Kilda. Just put a 2 in front)

39. Howes (number he was drafted. Plus one more than 38 worn by Howe, the extra letter pushes him up a number)

40. McVee (next available)

45. Moniz-Wakefield (worn by a previous hard nut out of the NT)

Almost forgot to add my best 22 and the Casey 21 for Werridee...

I have never enjoyed footy so much as of the last six months and have never been so excited about the next season.

I'm sure we all feel the same.

Oh how sweet if this is another decade like the fifties or sixties and we win another 3 or four cups.

Yep, dominated all year, minor premiers, PREMIERS and, most recently, did well in the draft.
It’s a great time to be a Dees fan!

Lock it in. I like the reasoning and connections where possible.

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
