Queanbeyan Demon 7,022 Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 Did anyone happen to hear the interview on ABC radio today with Michael Byrne and how he was shipped out of Melbourne in 1982? 1 Quote

I don’t know about shipped out, but I do remember one of his last games and he didn’t even put in an effort. He was simply dreadful and I, at that time, was under the impression he wanted out. I’m not sure what the situation was but I believe he’d asked to be transferred to Hawthorn. 1 Quote

Fritta and Turner 4,696 Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 One of the very few we got rid of who went on to ultimate success. From the implementation of Vic Country Zones to the start of the Draft we were terrible. 1 Quote

I had nothing to say. We made a bad decision (again) 2 Quote
radar 1,867 Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 Shipped him off midweek. We played Hawks that Saturday at Princes Park. Byrne kicked 5 goals. All over now 💙❤️ 1 Quote
picket fence 18,176 Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 I remember this well. I knew him in a past life, I played cricket with him, he was a blood on the pitch fast bowler absolute terroriser. Another dreadful decision by club at the time. Quote
tiers 2,883 Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 He was a liability with us. At the dorks he had Matthews, Dipper, Wallace and others who could cover for him and take the pressure off him. All he had to do was contest. Quote
Cranky Franky 2,270 Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 We lost a large number of decent players from 1965 to about 1980 who all went to other Clubs. Tells a story. Quote
deebug 1,754 Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 Sadly we know all too well what we were in the past😪 All body parts crossed we can now move forward and enjoy the new MFC☺️ Quote

I thought he was a pretty handy player and was disappointed that he went elsewhere. As I said, his last game with us was disgraceful and it was obvious that he wasn't happy and wanted out. Quote
