2021 or the thread, Jontee? (aka 'Mr 2000' - who'll do #2021?)

I just watched the last quarter again and yet again I cried when the final siren sounded. Hearing our song burst out around the ground and seeing our boys doing the stacks-on thing and the unbridled joy, and this overwhelming feeling of relief and pride and gratitude (somebody slap me) it’s like nothing else on Earth. This will NEVER EVER get old.

🙋‍♀️ I’ll happily do #2021!!!!

I don’t ever want this thread to end.

SithBPB...

I'm making my way through the Highlight Reels thread and recognising for the first time how many times players with the ball instinctively and instantaneously got the ball to a teammate moving at full pace (which never diminished, right to the end) exactly where no break in said full pace was required - 'That Goal' (Jackson to Oliver) and several instances down the outer wing as examples. Electric.

Perhaps a highlights-reel-type could put together a package, please?

This is literally a joy to behold. Pinpoint accuracy is always a pleasure to watch. Now, where was I? That’s right, I’m about to watch the little vid of all 21 goals, again. 🙂❤️💙🏆

QD gets home after working the late shift. Opens 'Land to get an update on the biggest story of the off-season so far. GAWN! Decides to watch the replay of the granny for a change!

Was talking to my sister recently who declared when watching the replay she started full sobbing crying for 5mins when Gawn won the toss 😂

Why would it?

That 16.4 happened with 1.5 quarters to go, equivalent to 66.67 points per quarter or 267 points for the match. Let’s not forget this was against the 2nd best team for the year.

That’s how hot we were.

It wasn't that long ago that we were all complaining about how we couldn't put teams away.

Geez we've found another one or two gears now.

Yeah, what happened? Is it gone for legal reasons?

@WalkingCivilWar is right, it's a reference to a recreational pharmaceutical; awful drug, awful song.

Still seething that we allowed those single final quarter goals to Geelong in the PF and Footscray in  the GF 😮.   Need to be more ruthless 🤗

My wife and I have watched that 3rd quarter sequence and last quarter every day since the granny as well as the post game celebrations plus all the highlights reels as well. It has truely been a memorable month that our boys have made possible for us all. Those last 16 goals were exceptional and have been burnt into my memory for ever.

2021 - winning the flag.  Mr 2000?, some days I feel like it.  (Will soon be eligible to play for the Cats).

I watched the last quarter again too.

2 new things stood out.

Jackos kick on goal - when it left the boot the pack got ready to contest/spoil then just stopped as it sailed through.  The ball gets extra lift at that ground?

Adem Yzes head - it is enormous.

Yeah man.
Petracca and Gawns misses on the run from outside fiddy in the last qr of the GF still rankle.

Most likely that’s the reason. Well, one of the reasons, anyways.

Just saw it was because people couldn’t keep politics out of a footy forum.

Pity, I really enjoyed @binman description of contemporary cultural dialogue. It was one of the most eloquent things I’ve ever read on here.

Anyways, back to gloating about the flag please.

Yes me to Fork’em two wasted opportunities.😀😀

Amen to that, THBT! Had I known it was destined for the scrap heap I would’ve taken a screenshot of it, such was its brilliance. And I say that unabashedly.
But yeah, WE WON THE BLOODY PREMIERSHIP!!!!! ❤️💙

Damn it all! I never got to be Ms 2021! Curse you, @DeeZone!!!

Commiserations WCW. I suspect Deezone was an innocent usurper of your claim.

On a day of omens, though, who better to carry the mantle of Ms 2022?!

Do I have the Threepeat burden now, though?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • AFLW: 2025 Season Preview

In advance of Season 10, the AFL leadership has engaged in candid discussions with all clubs regarding strategies to boost attendance and expand fan bases. Concerningly, average attendances in 2024 were 2,660 fans per match, with the women’s game incurring an annual loss of approximately $50 million.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
