Engorged Onion 10,226 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Guardian Article: Move Over WB - You've had your AFL Fairytale 10 1 1 Quote
Bring-Back-Powell 15,552 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Nice article. I think she echoes many Victorian based MFC diehards in that a premiership this year would be nice but the true dream is to see the boys live at the MCG celebrating with friends and family in more normal times. 5 Quote
Lucifers Hero 40,722 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 (edited) Similar theme to the the Guardian article. another-cinderella-story "The oft-held wisdom in AFL circles is that you have to lose one to win one and use the pain of defeat to inspire the deeds of victory. But when a team has a sense of destiny, that they alone can turn around the fortunes of a sad history, and they harness the power and energy of belief, it can certainly overcome everything else". This centuries premiership drought breakers: Lions, Swans, Geelong, Hawthorn, Bulldogs, Tigers all with first time coaches (except LIons) and first time in GF after long absents. What time is it? Its Demon Time!!🤞 Edited September 15, 2021 by Lucifer's Hero 4 1 Quote

Guest Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 I can empathize with the sentiment of a long suffering punter. After all I am one myself. However, I hate the attitude that it’s our ‘turn’ and that we are owed a premiership based on who we are. That type of thinking was what got us into this drought and is a big reason why Carlton is where they are. Quote
D Rev 635 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 My take away from the article is less around being 'due' or a fairytale and more around the normalisation of watching your team from anywhere but the game itself, which is helpful. Quote

There was a romanticised idea bandied around in 2018 that it was our turn after the Bulldogs and Tigers drought-breaking flags in the two prior seasons. We all remember what happened. Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,679 Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 It’s all about capability and belief. We now have both. I just want to taste success. It’s so close. So close. GIVE EM HELL 1 Quote

I guess I’m anxious that this might be the only opportunity for us to win a flag in our lifetime and to miss out on all the festivities that the Richmond, Dogs, Geelong and Swans supporters got to experience in their drought breaking wins would be a little sad IMO. Still, nothing changes the fact the a flag would be awesome regardless. That’s why we barrack for our club. Edited September 16, 2021 by Bring-Back-Powell 2 Quote

Re the history part, rationally we all know that yesterday is no guide to tomorrow. I'm happy to dream for a further10 days and 🤞 there is another fairytale/cinderalla story in the making. To be fair, and while the article did cover more ground than that, there is literally a line in the OP article that states: 'The Doggies did it in 2016, and whilst I have a distinct fondness for Melbourne’s west, they’ve had their fairy-tale, it’s our turn now. I will be absolutely ecstatic if we get up, but still feel like we have to win one at the G to truly break the drought. Quote

Grr-owl 1,258 Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 All this positivity means the Dogs are the under......dogs. 🤔 I'm wary... If both teams bring their best, they will be tough to beat. Dogs by less than a goal.... 1 Quote
