ins and outs versus the cats

Based on your cant kick cant play summation we'd be dropping half the team following what I have seen the last 2 weeks. Seeya later to Bruce, Carrol, Ward and Bate just for starters.

Godders and Brown were both easily in our top 5 on Monday and are 2 of a few that can hold their heads up high and say they gave it their all. Dropping them would be the completely wrong message at this stage.

skill is not enough you also need to work hard and when your back is against the wall I would rather have unskilled workers than lazy professionals

Out: Neitz (inj.), Robertson (inj.), Jamar, Wheatley, Brown, Godfrey

In: Bizzell, Holland, Sylvia, P Johnson, Yze, Pickett

B: Bizzell Carroll Whelan

HB: Rivers Holland Ward

C: Johnstone Jones Green

HF: Bruce Miller Sylvia

F: Bate P Johnson Davey

R: White Moloney McDonald

Int: C Johnson, Yze, Bell, Pickett

Emg: Jamar, Brown, Godfrey

THE OUTS:

- Neitz: injured.

- Robertson: injured.

- Jamar: needs a couple of games back at Sandringham to get some big game time rucking and remind himself he is too good for VFL level and belongs at AFL level

- Wheatley: looked very sloppy and underdone, has had limited pre-season preparation and needs a couple of games at Sandringham

- Brown: didn't have a big impact against Hawthorn but tried hard, stiff to be dropped but I've gone youth (Bell & CJ) over him

- Godfrey: like Brown, didn't have a big impact but was far from our worse, but has been tried at AFL and failed to cement a spot so once i've again youth who have shown they are capable to be great AFL players and needs patience and oppurtunities

THE INS:

- Bizzell: one of Melbournes best over the pre-season, has worked hard and deserves a chance

- Holland: need another big man and whilst he was not great this week at Sandringham, fom has been solid so far this year and deserves a spot

- Sylvia: looked ready against Geelong in VFL, can be a target up foward and a pinch-hit midfielder

- P Johnson: was always going to struggle to break into the side as a ruckmen but now may slip in as a forward (primarily)

- Yze: has nothing to learn from playing at Sandringham. He knows what he needs to do and needs to be given the oppurtunity.

- Pickett: probably hasn't warranted a spot on current form, but then again who can pick him out amongst so many others? Experienced, proven under pressure and can give that spark (whether a great goal or bump) that we need taking pressure off Davey to be the man to ignite the side and lets him relax a bit and focus on doing what he does best.

INS Holland, Yze, Bizzell, Sylvia

OUTS - Robbo (Inj) Neitz (Inj) Wheatley (inj/omit) C Johnson,

Brown and Godfrey should remain in the team- at least they bleed for the jumper. However if they were to drop one it would be Brown (I'm surprised he got 26 touches)

Pickett won't play- he's too fat. Although I don't mind the idea of Byron playing in the goal square for most of the game. Won't happen though.

Sylvia's an obvious in. Be nice to have at least one of our top 5 picks playing.

Yze must come back. With all our injuries up forward, we need some goal kicking experience. Showed a couple of promosing signs against St.Kilda and would have played on Monday had it not been for Adem himself volunteering to be dropped. I'm sure most Demonlanders will forgive Yze if he makes a solid contribution (ie-4 goals) when the chips are down.

Bizzel must come back into the team to face his old boys. Can offer versatility up forward or down back and I thought his pre-season from warranted a round 1 gig.

Chris Johnson should be dropped. After being blown away by his scintillating pre-season performances against Hawthorn and Richmond (@ Princes Park) the kid has shown nothing in two weeks. Only averaging 10 possessions. Time to find some form at Sandy and then have another crack at AFL in a month or so.

Ben Holland should come in to counter Geelong's potent and tall forward line of Mooney, Ottens, N Ablett and Hawkins.

Matthew Bate to remain in the side. Still averaging 19 touches a game and he's done just as much positive as negative (including a 55 metre goal V Hawthorn) and some chizzling inside 50 entries. Must address a couple of issues, but I'd rather he do this in the seniors as he has an X factor about him.

Colin Garland - An absolute left-field smokey to be selected, but I doubt it.

Pickett is a long way off, looking at how unfit he was he shouldn't be considered to at least round 5 - 6. Not fair on other players if he is. He is basically overweight and doesnt work hard enough!

But sylvia, yze, pj, holland to come in

Davey (has to go, just basically a one trick pony, really has no idea about the game and is massively overated by our supporters)neitz inj, robbo trying to take to many speccies and not help the team out glad he's gone, bate (he is young and will improve but must find a spot for him)

We need to inject some pace into our team, Buckley for his first game. Holland to be the tall forward and Sylvia the leading forward. Yze Pickett to stay at sandy for another week, Ferguson or Biz comes in for Ward to play on N Ablett.

He doesn't look overweight up close to me, but may lack match conditioning just like anyone in their first couple of games of the season, just like J Brown is underdone at the minute.

Look forward to the return of Sylvia :)

Hell me too LT, me too ;) :D !!!

And just a quick query after reading through everyone's well thought out suggestions.......

Most think there should be four or more changes this week, and while we all vary on who should come in and play where,

does anyone actually believe that Neale will truly make that many?

He has not been known to do so in the past, nor has he been one to be particularly risk-taking when it comes to playing the youngsters,

so the question stands, what are the real odds of getting any more than the bare minimum two changes that was forced through injury?

I gotta say if we blood in a younster at full foward, i hope it's newton, so he gets a chance at afl level and can learn from his experience. I reckon davey will play because he still adds defensive pressure and i hope he can run into some form. I still think that C.johnson deserves another chance and Godfrey deserves his spot. Sylvia still needs to find more fitness into his game

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
