Geelong have named Darcy Fort as an emergency.  It was reported he rucked at their training yesterday while Stanley didn't.

Tuohy and Henderson also reportedly 'sore'.

A late change coming up?

I think there is more concern around Henderson who supposedly has a sore hammy

Dear  Tom McDonald, your mission should you choose to accept it, is to run Henderson up and down the ground like a deranged yo-yo until you hear a ping.

No more excuses for Tmac tonight.

Hes been carried by the team the past 2 games and Ben Brown and Fritsch have been doing the heavy lifting.

Tmac simply needs to stand up tonight.

Huh? I get that you're anxious- and Tom won't be the reason we win or lose...

If he can bring ball to ground and help keep Henderson busy so that Brown and Fritta can have a good run at the footy, then I think he would have done his role.

Of course a few goals would be nice. But he just needs to be back to his mobile running best tonight, and his tackling best. He has been one of our best inside 50 tacklers. Need to continue with that.

Just like he did for Kozzie's first goal last game. I have huge confidence that he can bring that running game

Never said he would be the reason at all..

Simply said he needs to stand up.

Get to many contests as possible, bring the ball to ground and provide a good lead up target.

Really very surprised thay if Hunt was fit they wouldn't have played him.

He hasn't played in a month and just started training. Maybe they are worried he won't get through the game.

Our fitness staff have done an amazing job this year. If they aren't rushing him in, there must be a reason.

Fitness is without a doubt the one big advantage we have over Geelong tonight. Don't want to take any risks.

I'm pleased to see that Hunt is not an emergency. If he had been, it would be Match Committee telling him he's fit but just not good enough to make the final 23. This way, it can be presented as giving him two more weeks to be fully fit for the GF.

I expect Jordan to be sub unless there is some concern about McDonald, in which case I could understand it being Melksham. I really can't see either of the others getting the job.

TMac will be OK.

He could have had two goals last match, both good leads, one a near-set shot miss and the other a kick from Neal Bullen that went over his head. (And we should have been 8-10 goals up at half time , there were gettable shots missed by Jackson (2), Petracca (2), TMac, Brayshaw and Langdon.

There is lots of  talk about Geelong's forward line, but I'd be just as fearful of Jackson, Brown, TMac, Fritsch, Pickett and Spargo (not to mention Petracca)  if I were Geelong's backs.

And their defence sure ain't in our class - Jack Henry maybe excepted.

So I would think he isn’t

The fact that he wasn't named as an emergency makes me think the same. He's not fully fit just yet.

Interesting to see Chandler named as an emergency. Hoping that one of the small forwards isn't under injury concern. I'm sure I'm over reacting and he's just listed there as he's been a sub before and another decent option behind the other three.

Goalkicking Goalkicking Goalkicking. We dominated the Lions. Should have been 7 goals up at half time.  Must take our chances this week and 🤞 in the GF.

YES I’M ANXIOUS ABOUT TONIGHT. 50 years of waiting does that to a man.

I reckon we need to put someone on Henry. He has been great At intercept marking, especially since Stewart went down.

will be massive if we can bring the ball to ground inside 50

Henry does  intercept well, so a nasty accident is in the westerly breezes, no doubt. Shame about that....

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
