Unless he is tagging, I’d have Harmes on the wing. Likes to run and plays better when he has space in front of him. Just need to get him to commit to non-stop running for potentially little reward.

I'm not so sure Harmes has the self control to play the wing position?
A lot of Gus' role seems be to position himself in a hole to create perceived pressure, not great for the disposals tally, but super important for the rest of the team.

Jackson looked better?

Ā

Has transformed himself in the last few weeks.

His marking is great and now unlike earlier this year is doing what fwds should....score goals.Ā

And reminds me of that song...

I was only nineteen.😁

How many of Dr. D's proclamations came true? The us finishing fifth one is up there with 'bring peace forĀ our time' after the Munich agreement was signed. And that got nixed last week!

Or has he given us more prognostications for us to debunk moving forward?Ā :roos:

Another slight complaint was Petty when matched up one on one with Fogarty

Bit harsh I reckon,Ā Col. Fogarty is enormous, and uses it very well. He also had the ideal position on the ball when he took his marks. Unless you’re similarly built, it’s near impossible to shift a guy like thatĀ in that situation.Ā Not sure there’s any more Petty could have done. He was excellent todayĀ as our key defender otherwise.Ā

Thought we were lazy at the start and later on, but a stunning win. Loved seeing Fitch on spark. 7.0. What an effort.

Now we have equaled or highest ever winning season (1956.)

Go Dees.

Would love to see Petty up forward. He is a marking beast and tough as nails.

That’s where he’ll end up, but shhhh…..

Some great performances but for me, Smiths solid performance coming in late with FA matches was a standout.

The fifth place finish, not the Munich agreement.Ā

Dont mention the war.

I wrote after the first quarter that Fritta may have been stoned. My judgement was reconfirmed as not being without merit as he hadn't had a touch. If he was on something, it must have started peaking after the quarter time break as he played magnificently with the opportunities he was given.

Ā

Whatever he was on, let’s just hope he takes a bunch more of it next Saturday!

It wasn't a pantsing by any measure. Just a slight thing I noticed. Any team that holds another to 60 odd points hasn't been opened up by any measure. And Harry contributed to that defensive effort for sure.

We get May back next week, who is the ideal candidate for those one on one match ups, and Petty can play his role as an interceptor and spoiler roaming along the backline. All will be perfectly copacetic (instead of goodĀ with a slight imperfection). Fogarty would have had much harder time getting body position on May.

Yep, May would obviously be a better match, for every reason. I likedĀ Harry’s game in his absence a lot though.Ā

Listening on Fox I felt the song was slightly subdued. Perhaps me singing along drowned them out a bit.

Ā

TheĀ  score against from turnovers,Ā were a worry in the thirst half. We need to keep control of it.

Moths to flame at times.

When the Crows were going quickly, we looked a mess.Ā Ā

Used the switch of play early, then not much as the game wore on.Ā Ā

Stood up when it was their time Petty, Bbb, Friita, Langdon, Spargo, Salem.Ā

Oliver's goal kicking, yips again. Worked his way into the game.Ā

Harmes worked hard all game, liked his linking handball, gets and receives.Ā

We fell off a few when we tackled.Ā

Ā Tracc had answers, composure and became the steadying influence.Ā

Gawn and Jackson dominance is beautiful.Ā

Worried about Sparrow, disposal efficiency has fallen.

JJ, Rivers, Petty andĀ Bowey playing well.

Well done Smith, ready if there are injuries to the big backs.

Some soft frees to us.

Need more outside run.

The G is ours!

Forge theĀ the game I still can't get over Fritsch! When was the last time we had someone kick 7?Ā

Hardly touched it in the first quarter, that was up there in Farmer 2000 vs Collingwood territory!

Yep credit to the crows who knew how to crowd our fwd line. Its hard to do for four quarters.

AndĀ  whenĀ Ā Fritta has room he is an excitement machine.

For his size and weight seven is supreme.

Has an uncanny sense of where the goals are and often snaps truly.

Great time to get back to his best.

And while coaches have to worry about him...bb will be lurking...jacko is clunking them and kicking goals and Tmac will come back in.

Anb has been kicking a few as well.

Im hoping Kozzie is a wild card in the finals and our forward line becomes better than our defence.

I feel sorry for Joel Smith who would normally be a shoe in next week based on a game like that, but unfortunately will make way for Maysy. Didn't put a foot wrong.

Im not so sure .. Depending on matchups I think it a line ball between him and Hibbo. Both were great today (especially Smith)Ā

Special praise to Spargo who put together a very good 4 quarter effort today!Ā

My changes assuming fitness

May for Hibbo

Viney for Sparrow

T Mac for MelkshamĀ

with Gus and Jordan lucky but might still go depending on if they want Hibbo in the side

Also Harmes to do a Tough as nails tagging job take no prisoners on Dangermouse!

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
