It's a $700k question

There has been nothing from Our board/Perty about our commitment so it's not a split or even us making up for the lost game previously and .$ 800k.

Purely a good chance to get national exposure on FTA TV and to show off our brand and skills near the pointy end of the season.

The game time is most likely driven by The Dogs playing Sunday.

If need be I'm sure the AFL could have re-structured Round 19 to get the Dogs v Adelaide game into the Saturday (e.g. swapping it with Sydney v Fremantle, as Sydney would no longer need a six-day break into the following Friday if Melbourne v Dogs was the subsequent Friday night game).

Heard a rumour that there will be no Thursday night games until week 1 finals.

Judging by this fixture, I think that might be true.

Good riddance.

I hate Thursday night games.

I don't mind them.

But I'd rather the dees didn't play in them. Was weird not having a game over the weekend.

I'm a footy fixturing equivalent of a NIMBY

Disaster for me as that means due to a family function and a wedding I cannot watch the GC game or go to the Bulldogs game. Devo.

Plenty of summer days available for a wedding.

Except of course on the days including the draft, and the Community series games, oh, and any special training session where the new draftees appear.

Come to think of it, a couple can skip the service and enjoy all the pitfalls of marriage by just living together and enjoying the footy, can't they?

my brother was silly enough to get married at 4.30pm on that famous last Saturday of August in 1987. He and I pretty much took ourselves (as teenagers and younger) to all the games from the mid-70s. Our extended family has been supporting the Demons from before VFL days (ie in the 1800's) - so you can imagine angst this caused.

Half the congregation stood as one and cheered in the middle of the wedding when Jason Dunstall kicked the goal at Kardinia Park, and did it again about 3 minutes later when the siren went at Western Oval. Geez it was a good reception too !

What do you hate about them?

I'm not a fan of watching the Dees play on Thursday but more than happy to watch another game on a Thursday night.

This is the most important question.

yes, if we are getting nothing from it then it's a double slap in the face for us.

I live in Queensland and im a bit [censored] at the GC game not being up here.

Hardly been allowed to fly down to Melbourne to see a game and then when we possibly could see the mighty Dees in person, both the QLD games have been moved.

I dont get the move to Darwin, massive disadvantage for the following week me thinks.

Still, this group continues to prove me wrong so here's hoping it continues.

Next two games will see our fwd line gel more and kick some big scores. Just at the right time too.

I can't imagine the game going ahead in the NT at this rate, question is whether it will even be allowed to proceed in Queensland

Hope so, as even though it’s on there home deck it won’t impact the next weeks game as Darwin would with the heat and humidity and I preemptively booked a trip to coincide with the game months back.

The NT has been the silent star of our national Covid response. Admittedly not much to deal with, but the government has pulled all the exact right levers at the exact right time, and genuinely protected our most vulnerable communities. I have it on extremely good authority that the hard border stance started out as an election measure, but since then the local government has been the most reactive and targeted in shutting borders to hotspots and then also the quickest to lift them. The recent lockdown wasn't some vague affair where people had until midday the next day to scramble across the border, but was given one hour notice. Harsh but effective. Delta variant dealt with in the space of three days. Done. Meanwhile, the NT has carried the load for international returnees without a leak as yet, and - despite some correlation between Covid community impact and vaccine uptake - is hitting inoculation rates way way above the rest of Australia. In short, this game will happen if it makes sense to happen.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • GAMEDAY: Gold Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons are back at the MCG and have a massive challenge ahead of them as they take on Premiership contender the Gold Coast Suns. What do you want to see from the Dees today?

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
