I think if you watch the replay, yes we got some favourable calls, but there were quite a few non calls that went against us too. Rivers a clear push in the back with a couple of minutes to go. Kossi taken high. Etc etc. 2 meter Peter paid a mark that well, wasn't really a mark.

I too would be annoyed at the umpiring if the shoe was on the other foot, but to blame the loss on them is ridiculous. There are only 3 games this year that were won and lost due to the umpiring, and all were decided by 1-2 points. 11 points win with 6 more scoring shots is simply not a win handed to a team by the umpires. It just isn't.

We got out to a 21 point lead at one point. No matter how bad the umpiring is, it won't do that for you!

We also missed a lot of easy goals by errant kicking, so the margin was really bigger than it was.

It's an interesting one, i've been to 8 games this year and it's the first time opposition fans have interacted with me in a negative manner after the game.

I was leaving the G alone and had several unprovoked comments directed at me by Essendon fans

  • 'How much did you pay the umpires?"
  • "Free Kick Melbourne"
  • "Have you seen the police anywhere? The Bombers just got robbed"
  • "Go to the snow"
  • "Can't wait until you lose again"

Like they were all harmless comments overall, but in the 7 other games I've been to, nothing said to me but somehow from leaving the ground to the corner of Bridge/Punt I copped 5 random comments aha

Had lovely opposition fans next to me in certain games (Hawks/Saints) and had very civil conversations with them during the game about the state of play etc.

Possible infiltration of the crowd by port and eagles fans in bummers colours.

Truth be told I havent seen that before by them. It was strange.

Absolutely.

I thought the Adelaide game was one we could have won (or drawn) if the umpiring was called correctly for deliberate out of bounds. But as I said after the game, to blame the umpires is to wallpaper over obvious cracks which appeared in that game. You can scream blue murder about umpires, but if you have to rely on them to win games, you will always be in trouble, because the standard of umpiring is absolutely putrid and getting worse.

You need to control the things you can control. Devon Smith abusing the umpire for a second 50, is something Essendon could control. Us setting up correctly at the bounce and not giving away a free is also something we can control. Goal kicking, defensive set ups and so forth. No umpire told Essendon to keep bombing the ball into May and Lever, and no umpire told Jackson to have a stroke in front of goal and dribble the ball to the opposition.

Yes it was certainly different to previous games  I was able to control my self and not call them dirty drug cheats?

Perhaps the AFL need to be informed about the behaviour of one of the Marquee Clubs Supporters being not up to the standard set.

I suggest waving of MFC Jackets be in order...

I thought the umpiring was pretty bad and favored us way too much. Id be upset if i was a bummers fam.

About time though.

The biggest highlight was Tom macca's overhead snap on goal.

The MACCAS momemt sign then came on screen.

Them the perks of being on top, we've earn't the right for favourable umpiring. We've had to deal with this sort of crap for years upon years don't feel sorry for them.

They will have to wait another 2-3 year to play finals the cheats. long way to go for them.

We are going to encounter teams playing like this is their big final for the year, its really good practice for the bigger games coming up.

Our systems stand up, they came at us with all they had and we did enough to get the result we wanted, thats all you have to do at this point in the season.

We don't need to be playing september footy in June, long way to go just keep racking up the 4pts Dees, thank you very much.

Is Don is good.

Essendon have the worst supporters full stop. Can't stop complaining against the umpires. Drug cheats rot in hell.

If we'd lost, we'd be complaining about the umpiring. It was poor on Saturday night with inconsistency heaped on inconsistency. Pushes in the back paid and then not paid; similarly with incorrect disposal. But I reiterate what I've said before, the AFL heirarchy is to blame by having so many rules that are open to an individual's interpretation.

And before we get too critical, how dumb is it to give away a free kick for not having the 6-6-6 in place after a goal twice!

The best highlight for me is that we won without a functioning forward line.

I don't mind winning by strangling the opposition but there will come a time when we will have to score a lot to win.

Our nearest competition on the ladder have each shown that they can score quickly and big with multiple pathways to goal.

There are only 8 games to go to find the magic potion. Let's use the time wisely.

Was Petracca turning around and waving to the feral Essendon [censored] in the crowd, who no doubt had been giving Christian some goal kicking advice. And THEN, when he kicks the goal, and gives him a great big smile and a wave, the Essendon [censored] appealing to the umpires saying words to the effect of "Can he do that?"

At least the Swans supporter with the huge hand who bagged Tom McDonald in the same situation had the class to clap him after he kicked the goal and acknowledge that Tom won that one.

You could add up may hatred for every other club together and it wouldn't even come close to my absolute loathing of every Essendon supporter on the planet, including my mother and 2 of my brothers.

Pure gold.

I loved that expression on that fellas face. Cracked me up.

Watching on TV, I was a bit flummoxed as his reaction didn't seem proportionate to anything I saw from tracc. I wondered if there was some other trigger that I missed.

But no,  on the replay its just tracc turning and cupping his hand to his hear. And the fella was in shock. Hilarious.

When Dogga tried to dribble that one through from about 15m out… drop punt son!!

A bit of a brain fade there but loved how he didn’t go looking for somewhere to hide. Regained composure with a goal shortly afterwards and followed up with a nice shepherd for Spargo to get clear to score a goal. Love how we protect the ball carrier this year, something I thought we were lacking going into the season.

100%, I noticed that too. The mental strength of our youngsters is so impressive.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
