As well.

I was hoping the Blues got up.

Feeling much better about the game next weekend after this choke. Demoralising defeat for Carlton. Can't see us losing tbh unless we have a real mare

Can't believe there is any sentiment for the blues here. They have had recompense coming for years. I don't care if we're not 2 games clear. I'm overjoyed that we're even 1 game clear. We'll take them on and show 'em.

The Blues won’t be an easy assignment for us next weekend, but our last quarter fitness might be telling, given the way they fell in a hole late in today’s game.

I watched that last quarter. Carlton's defensive pressure through its forward half was non-existent. Weitering is good but that's not going to stop opposition scores against when the midfield is so dominant.

The Dogs' midfield is peerless in the comp and Carlton showed they could produce good football through the first 2.5 quarters, but they're not going to see 5 goals out of Betts each week, and hopefully Hibberd can cover him well next week.

Don’t blow a fuse about it. ?

Agreed!

Not sure what to think. Their best is good, hopefully they bring their worst next week. We need to be switched on, our worst this year has also been poor. Our best only coming out in quarters not full games.

Blowing fuses are so 20th century...

Up yours carlscum. I hate you nearly as much as the filth and girlong. I don't see why people were getting hard about being 2 games clear after 8 rounds. It is what happens at the end of the year that matters. Dogs play port next. I hope the way the scum lost that match will deflate them for next week.

results this weekend have done us no favours really

Brisbane looks well on its way to a win and the Eagles win keeps their top 4 hopes well and truly alive.

Probably down to six teams for the top 4 now.

At least we have a 4 game break on the ninth and tenth teams so the 8 is starting to look safe.

If Dogs had lost today and given they play Port next week we could have had a real mini break on them

Onya dl4e!

Assuming Brisbane wins but doesn't put on another 7+ goals to the margin, we'll finish the round having played (and beaten) 4th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 17th and 18th.

That's a 3-0 record over the current top 8. For comparison:

  1. Dogs: 2-1
  2. Port: 1-2
  3. Geelong: 3-2
  4. Brisbane: 1-3
  5. Sydney: 3-1
  6. West Coast: 1-2
  7. Richmond: 1-4

The top 4 race is broader than that. I don't think any of the current top 8 can be ruled out, particularly when everyone down to even St Kilda in 11th is just one win behind 4th.

West Coast still has 8 games in Perth to come and road trips include Carlton, Adelaide and Collingwood.

Brisbane is a bad free kick off being 6-2, doesn't leave Queensland for the next three weeks, and still has 7 games at the Gabba to come, including three of its last four.

Sydney keeps performing against good sides.

Richmond is Richmond. Geelong just pumped Richmond.

It's still very even.

Me too, but oh so happy to witness Carlscum given a sniff of victory and then enjoy watching them writhe as they see it snatched away...

Me too, however, I'm losing no sleep tonight watching Carlton lose...

Nat Fyfe has one of the worst cases of the yips i've seen.  harder to miss than score that one.

It was better than that, they just stood there and watched it happen…

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
