Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The converstaion so far, Deanox congratulates pert for his sponsorship work, I point out it went backwards, to which you say it is not perts fault.

Just to be clear it was @Cards13 not me who brought up his sponsorship work!

I'd be interested to know how everyone elses sponsorship has gone before I make any judgements.  I can't imagine this year would be easy. I'd have expected 2019 to be up on 2018, leveraging success but may have been locked into contracts?

I honestly don't know whether he is good or not. He has a good industry rep and track record. He was moved on after a decade, which to me isn't surprising: change and refreshing input at the top is important. My surprise is the Eddie is still there.

So I won't attribute anything soley to him as credit or fault, unless I know it is his work. I do think though that the good work and performance of of a company, even if driven by subordinates and staffers, is a credit to a CEO unless there is evidence (or at the least reasonable talk) that the good things happened in spite of them.

And if there is reason to believe auch talk, I'm happy to hear about it. It just need to be more than "he was moved on by Collingwood, and was only at C9 for less than a year".

Also to @jnrmac's point, I was surprised we chased him outside the process too. It's obvious Mahoney is a good business operator, so I'm surprised he didn't get the gig. I can only assume there was a bit of a nudge from AFL house or that we thought he may have had existing strong relationships with those powerbrokers that was an edge over pure business skills.

I was told that he was a big hitter that would be able to get the Yarra Park redevelopment through vs Mahoney that was not so experienced in the corporate world.

Not sure if there is any validity to that but it fits.

Hey if he gets Yarra Park, or any central location, up and running as a home for us, he'll have earnt his spot.

The comment that we are a government led committee tasked with that was eyebrow raising.

The fact it is going to be Marvel stadium sized with Casey as our MCG sized oval was something that stood out to me from Bartlett’s podcast interview.

The split in football and list management is odd to me.

If it was admin and footy split I can understand it better but list management and trading and management of the cap goes hand in hand with what the FD are thinking.

I know they will talk to each other but where the buck stops is important and has endless implications.

Isnt the end of the world, just don’t think it will last.

Evidently the split in structure from the review was not to last - and probably only in place to placate parties who were at the club. I expect this to change once again to align list management with the FD once again.

I suspect you're right, although I'm not comfortable with Richardson taking over list management. He didn't exactly set the world alight with his list building at St Kilda...

I reckon there might be one more face to join the FD. Is list management and game day strategy an odd combination for a single role?

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
