Good luck to Sam going back to coaching and a small role at the club.

I don’t understand why the Casey job is going to be part time. Surely it’s too important not to be a full time person even if they split their time with more at AFL development level.

There has to be a strong connection with the AFL and VFL sides. We can’t go back to players doing one thing at Casey and another AFL level

Edit: Unless this means it’s a part time role moved in to someone else’s job portfolio. Ie. Someone with more afl experience

Probably due to the reduced soft cap. I suspect that your  last statement will prove to be correct.  The reduced soft cap forces difficult choices.

Hawthorn have made their VFL coach part-time giving it to Sam Mitchell who will also be their Development Coach.

Good experience for Sam coaching his own team before succeeding Clarkson.

Rightly so. Not a single win for the entire 2020 year............................wishing Sam all the best with his future coaching endeavours.

I heard this, too - seems like a good idea. I wonder who it will be...

Just in time to move to the Dees in 2022.

This is a prime opportunity for the Demons to finally sign up Mark "Choco" Williams as their new coach of the Casey Demons in the VFL and also make him head of development. I am confident he would jump at the chance of taking on that role here at the Melbourne Football Club.

I have been pushing this for a while but I hope with the Demons having a review at the moment that we will now finally look to give Mark "Choco" Williams the chance to be involved at our club. We certainly need good quality people at the Demons and we need to make sure development is a priority at our club as this has always been a big issue for us.

I think this would be an excellent idea - he’s great with the younger players: he was instrumental in Dustin Martin’s rise to the top.

I was actually thinking this, when I heard it on SEN this afternoon. They were asking what would happen if Clarko kept going and going - I thought that I know a place where he could get a start in the top job!

I wouldn't be surprised if Egan ends up with the gig or if they even go back to Plapp to tie in with their other responsibilities.

Will be interesting to see.

I'm drawing a link in my mind between this and Nathan Jones playing on for 2021.

Am I crazy?  Casey will need leaders when on-field resources are tight, Jones will need something to do when he's not in that magical last burst of refreshed form that will bring him to a triumphant 300.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
