In today's Herald Sun full mock draft they had us taking these players with our selections.

Melbourne: Arlo Draper, Angus Sheldrick, Lewis Rayson, Josh Rentsch, Taj Woewodin

19. Melbourne (DB)

Arlo Draper (South Adelaide)

Forward/midfielder, 186cm, 75kg

Dan says: Tyler Sonsie or Draper? It was a tough choice for either of these first-round sliders, but I settled for Draper as he is a unique talent with significant upside. Not having settled in a position shouldn’t necessarily be a hindrance, with his versatility allowing him to provide his trademark X-Factor anywhere on the ground for the Demons.

41. Melbourne (DB)

Angus Sheldrick (Claremont)

Midfielder, 179cm, 86kg

Dan says: Not too many needs to fill at the Dees, so Sheldrick gives them extra midfield depth as a ready-made inside bull.

46. Melbourne (DB)

Lewis Rayson (Glenelg)

Defender, 183cm, 69kg

Dan says: A small rebounding defender to add to Melbourne’s current defensive mix, impressing with his efficient disposal at national championships level.

51. Melbourne (DB)

Josh Rentsch (GWV Rebels/Vic Country)

Key forward, 197cm, 100kg

Dan says: The Morrish medallist will need to throw his weight around more to make it at the top level but his size and contested marking makes him a promising addition to Melbourne’s key-forward stocks.

58. Melbourne (DB)

Matching North Melbourne’s bid

Taj Woewodin (East Fremantle)

Midfielder, 182cm, 75kg

Dan says: Easy decision to match to secure the son of Brownlow medallist Shane Woewodin at this late stage, after he impressed at the combine and at WAFL Colts level.

Mac is not as well developed as Dogga in his career. But huge potential for future when he puts on weight and muscle.

Running alongside that draft on the Herald Sun’s subscriber pages is a feature covering Monday’s training session at TBBO for Victorian draft hopefuls run by the AFL Academy coach Tarkyn Lockyer where players also had their measurements taken for the first time since the pre-season. There were reports last week that Mac Andrew had bulked up considerably from 70kg to close to 80kg but the official figures show that he’s still only 74kg. He’s also added 1cm in height.

Mac Andrew himself has said in an interview that he's hit the 80kg mark.

I’m not questioning what he said in an interview. These measurements were taken on Monday by AFL staff at the training session.

Where does it say that the Herald Sun obtain these measurements though? Measurements are recorded for the recruiters purpose and also just from a development point of view. They wouldn't just release it to the HS for 'Mock Draft' purposes or most media outlets. Even on Cal Twomey's recent Phantom mock Draft he's still listed at 70kg.

From the horses mouth.

“I’ve put on about 10 kilos this year, so I’m about 80 now,” Andrew recently told The Age.

Here here this is wrong I think 4 picks and we may use only 3 !

I think we will only draft 3 on the night because we will upgrade Jordon to the primary list which will leave us with 2 rookie selections. So i'd imagine we will be doing some pick swaps to get higher up with our selections or possibly swap them for 2nd/3rd round picks next year seeing as we don't have a 1st round pick.

As Whispering Jack said, they've had their measurements recently updated. The last time the draftees were measured was back in Jan/Feb. Take Finn Callaghan for example, his stats were 189cm and 82kgs... he's now 191cm and 86kgs.

You’re not a very trusting soul are you?

In one of the posts above, Caligula’s Cohort has linked the Herald Sun article on yesterday’s mock draft. If you click on the link you will get to the article which CC cited. A couple of posts below is a post by Chelly which quoted Pick 11 going to St Kilda. Chelly also noted the height and weight particulars that are the same as the figures from the training article and which WJ highlighted in the screen shot in his post (with red border added). He paraphrased from the article that the players at Monday’s training “also had their measurements taken for the first time since the pre season”.

I will try to access the article later on and provide screen shots attesting to this if you  still have any doubts. 😀

I'd get Julian Assange on the case, and if he's busy maybe Scooby Doo and mystery inc instead

I know they've had their measurements taken. But you blokes seem to have missed the point I'm trying to make. Nothing has so far confirmed these are his actual official measurements from the testing on Monday. The article is Paywall so maybe it could say its the official measurements obtained from the day and if it does, my mistake.

He's supposedly listed at 74kg after the measurements had taken place, yet MA himself has said he's at the 80kg mark in an interview only 2 weeks ago.

I mean i have legitimately quoted MA himself who has stated he's put on 10 kilos and is up around the 80kg mark? And I'm pretty sure someone who's close contact with him confirmed this on this board few weeks back?

Just find it really strange some aren't willing to believe the kid himself.

Yeah nah. When I was a kid my mother used to complain that our local butcher used to put his thumb on the scales when he weighed her meat order. Mac needs to check this next time he weighs himself.

I have the answer.

If a quarter of a pound is 0 kg 113.5 grams then Mac needs to devour 53 McDonalds Quarter Pounders in a single sitting to reach 80kg.

Simple.

Yes either Draper or Sonsie as 1st round sliders would be very good additions for MFC. Versatile midfield or half forward types.

Phantom feasibility is given each have been injured in 2021 and had reduced testing exposure, it’s possible they drift down to possibly be available.

I thought we’d only have 4 picks including matching and including Woey junior

I like our 2nd pick as well with Angus Sheldrick. He's a Viney/Neale clone... already 88kgs at 179cms. Effectively our Jones replacement who is a similar height and weight. I found this espn article about him quite interesting. He fits Goody's player criteria being that he is a tough competitor and 2 way runner.

Earning best on ground honours for Western Australia in their 10-point win against South Australia in this year's final clash between the two sides, Angus Sheldrick is the prospect who has scouts talking.

Over the past two months, Sheldrick has built one of the most impressive resumes, also winning the head-to-head midfield matchup against pick one favourite Jason Horne-Francis in the first Under-19 Championships clash between WA and SA.

Horne-Francis was unable to impact the game through the midfield and was relegated to playing in the front half, in what was a surprise disruption to an otherwise near-flawless close to 2021.

In the WAFL Colts Grand Final, Sheldrick battled on manfully and was the dominant force through the middle, amassing 27 touches despite copping a bad corky in the second quarter and an unsportsmanlike knee to the ribs while down on all fours in the third quarter.

Given Sheldrick's recent eye-catching performances, his best on ground display at the weekend's final Under-19 Championships clash should surprise no one; he's a competitor who shows up every week and does what is asked of him.

In each of the Championships games, WA was clearly a level above through the midfield and the contribution of Sheldrick played a large part. An impressive stoppage midfielder, the 17-year-old is a strong-bodied stoppage specialist with a height and build akin to Lachie Neale.

At 179cm and 88kg, Sheldrick is strong over the ball and routinely wins first possession, works hard around the ground to receive loose ball gets, possesses an explosive burst of speed, shrugs tackles and tackles with intent, plays a strong two-way game and hits the scoreboard.

Impressively, during the WAFL Colts finals series, Sheldrick kicked six goals from three games, while kicking another two goals in his final match against SA, including the sealer.

Where Sheldrick will need to put work into his game is his kicking and decision making. He is effective feeding outside runners by hand but at this stage lacks polish and precision by foot. Whether he is under pressure or has time with ball in hand, at times he will attempt ill-advised kicks that lack situational awareness.

Gaining fans in recent months, Sheldrick is viewed as a likely mid-draft choice and would be a strong value selection for a club looking to give their midfield an immediate boost of competitiveness.

I'm a big fan of Sheldrick - he impressed me in all of the games he played in but particularly, in the last one against South Australia. I regards him as a real junk yard dog type of player who will do the hard work work for his coach and can learn under Jack Viney. I understand that Geelong are very interested in him.

Good write up. Thanks. In the 40s he would be worth a look.

Funny to see Neale mentioned; I think it’s uncanny how similar Zac Taylor looks to Lachie Neale. Almost a clone.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
