Just wondering whether anyone knows or thinks that Pickett will play this week against St.Kilda.

I'd love to see him out there for the season opener. He just provides that X-factor in big games at the MCG.

Can he play with just 1 VFL game as preparation?

Were they resting him yesterday (5 day break) with the view of playing him this week?

Has he a hidden injury which the MFC are refusing to reveal?

Thoughts?

BBP ive been thinking about this since yesterday myself. there can really only be a few scenarios;

1. He is unfit and won't play Rd 1 = They would have played him on Sunday

2. He is unfit but they will play him anyway = He probably would have still played on Sunday

3. He has made the grade re fitness and will play Rd 1 = He probably wouldnt have played yesterday.

4. He has an injury which we havent been made aware of = He wouldnt have played Yesterday.

I imagine 2 or 3 are the most likely, or at least make the most sense.

Channel 10 sport say a lot of things.....

I think we will have to wait a few more days and hear what the good Rev says...

Could you elaborate on this if you catch this reply? I'm not sure what that means.

Only Sylvia played on Sunday, so the others should be cherry ripe. But did that quote mean that since they were approved to play last Sunday they can't play on Friday? Seems odd to me.

Thanks.

it said in the Sun that Mclean, Holland and Pickett were not risked with Sandy because there is only a 5 day break from the Sandy game to the Demons opener

Just noticed your new signature and profile Y_M...

Nothing if not entertaining...

BTW is it you that keeps posting all those match videos on youtube? If so... Do more. Maybe rounds 20 and 21 of 2005 if you're bored.

Pickett will be named but wont play, Holland will only play if Caroll our Rivers doesn't, get set for the return of the Biz.

I hope the Biz is in.... he is still great value and can provide lots of rebound out of the backline.. if he plays and has a good game... it wont be easy for ND to drop him.

Good Luck Biz, i still got faith in you!

I think a lot of the hype about players has been for mind games. I doubt rivers will play and would prefer him to not if he is injured or sore. Mclean will play i have no doubt about it. Sylvia will not and shouldnt till he gets fit. Pickett i believe is the player their using as mind games and will play. Obviously bartram wont. We are somewhat depleated however as are the saints. Their forward line lacks kicking capasity without Reiwoldt and Kosi. No height at CHF for them. Hudgton will play as Matty isnt ready and neitz will kick another bag on him...hopefully have better luck than the posts.

My team for if pickett, holland, bartram, Sylvia dont play

B: Wheelan Carroll Wornock

HB: Bell Ward Bruce

C: C.Johnson Moloney Bate

HF: Robbo Miller Green

F: Jamar Neitz Davey

R: White McDonnald McLean

I.C: Jones, Yze, Wheatley, Godfrey

Brad Green on SEN said Pickett passed his skin fold and fitness tests a couple of weeks ago and will line up in round 1. Rivers is doubtful with hamstring soreness.

Rivers is doubtful with hamstring soreness.

Has that kid ever made it to Round 1 un-injured?:(

Hopefully it rains, or at the very least Reiwoldt doesn't play, thereby reducing the need for Rivers.

Why does that team look so depleted Occo... i know a few are out but howd Warnock and Godfrey get into the 22... Surely Bizz ahead of Warnock.. and someone younger instead of Godfrey??? SURELY:) PLEASE LOL

Godfrey?

Interesting choice.

No Rivers?

Rivers is doubtfull to play and wont in my opinion, esp since rievoldt wont play. Our team looks depleated cause u cant hep it if u have names like Pickett, Rivers, Dunn, Sylvia out. I choose Godfrey because he may get a tagging job on Dal Santo - a player who doesent handle getting tagged well. On the contrary McDonnald may get the rounds again. Wornock instead of Biz is easy to justify- we already have running backman like Ward, C.Johnson, Bell, Whelan and i believe the kid had shown enough this preseason to earn a spot.

Am i wrong in remembering Rivers getting cut open by Nick Reiwolt the last few times? Maybe im mistaken, but i seem to rmember him getting a hiding.

Who would he most likely line up on if Nick R didnt play?

I read somewhere that Junior was under a bit of a cloud with a calf problem.

In '05 (or was it '04?) Riewoldt kicked 9 against the Dees. 5 came against Nicho and the other 4 against Rivers.

Last year during the H&A season Melbourne had a lot of success with Carroll playing on Riewoldt when he went deep in their forward line and from memory Rivers played on him a bit when he played up the ground.

I can't remember who played on Riewoldt in the final last year.

Besides that day when Riewoldt kicked 9 and almost won the game off his own boot I can't remember him beating or even playing on Rivers too often.

I'm sure someone with a better memory can fill in the gaps for me.

IMO Rivers is an ideal match-up for Riewoldt. Pace being his only issue.

No mention of that on Ch. 10 news.

Said Rivers and Byron will have fitness tests tomorrow, along with plenty of Saints who are under injury clouds. Reiwoldt is unlikely to play, with Kosi and a couple of others only a 50-50 chance.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
