MT64 1,148 Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 Interesting West Coast figure but then they didn't play many matches at home. 1 Quote
napster 191 Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 We won the free kick count versus Cokers in the first round, a freak of nature. I doubt our luck would have held if we had made it to the finals. As this table shows, there’s no team more likely to enjoy the umpire’s good favours than their pet Pies, so in this regard there should be at least a level playing field for their final. Quote

To be fair there was no crowd at the Eagles game to influence Margetts. Quote
Clintosaurus 7,953 Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 Umpires have been looking after Collingwood ever since mid-2018 when the Channel 7 boss said he would like them to be 'up and about'. 2 Quote

Some of these are really shonky decisions to 'keep a match alive', depending on the umpires concerned. Quote
Flemo56 409 Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 As far as I’m concerned, this tells me that we didn’t apply pressure or tackle enough! 1 Quote
leave it to deever 17,621 Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 How does a wooden spooner get so many free kicks. Crows fans are shockers. So are the umps this year. 1 Quote

Yes, so although the lack of crowd influence might explain the WC losing some of their natural free kick advantage this year, we see the Pies still doing very well. Despite the decreased threat (at least on match day) of being bitten by an angry rabid Pie fan (albeit a largely toothless bite), higher influences on the umpires such as referred to by Clintosaurus continue to play a dominant role. As for North doing so well despite being such a rubbish team, maybe the pattern of the jumper sets off an automatic reflex in the umpire’s, and they pay the free kick, before realising that the blue isn’t black. Pies played a lot of games in Queensland and had a lot of local support from ex-pat feral pies. Quote
