As I said Garry was the main man the rest didn't give a [censored]. Burke can get stuffed too.

He should not have done it. he brought the club to it's knees he showed there and then that he knows nothing about football picking those 2 he should have learned the first time choosing Bailey. He is someone we don't need at the club and should steer way clear of.

He was a great player and most people like yourself can't get past that but he knows nothing about the modern game.

Nothing to do with my thoughts on him as a player, all to do with your disgraceful comments about someone doing a favour for their dying mate. You go sit next to the bed of your cancer-ridden best mate and tell them "no" as they beg you to help.

Stop trying to be an outraged internet person and be a grown up.

Paul Gardner was President when Bailey was appointed

Garry was front and centre with Neeld

I was told this by an ex assistant coach at the Dees back in 2015 when we bumped into him while we were having beers and a BBQ just before new years eve in Corowa. He comes up every year during the summer period by the Murray with his family.

Melbourne sought out Ross Lyon, Michael Malthouse and also Alistair Clarkson at the time. The theme was to go for an experienced coach as the board felt the players needed a fair shake up by a good hard taskmaster.

When they spoke to Ross Lyon he declined as he had already told the club that he had committed to the saints. Garry Lyon and Ross Lyon shared the same manager in Craig Kelly, and Kelly even told Lyon that Ross had verbally committed to the saints but just hadn't signed as of yet. Ross then behind everyone's back has a secret meeting with the dockers and the rest is history. Even his manager Craig Kelly was caught completely off guard. Melbourne wanted him, but Ross had bigger things going on.

Clarkson was offered a huge package deal. Garry Lyon and to a degree Stynes really pushed Clarkson hard, but he was contracted at the time and knew that a dynasty was only around the corner.

Lyon then spoke to Malthouse. Mick had already confirmed that he was taking time off coaching (this was in 2011 after he finished up at the pies) and instead was looking at going into the media. It was there that Malthouse Apparently gave a glowing and raving endorsement about one of his young and up and coming assistant coaches in Mark Neeld.

After the Dees missed out on their targeted experience men, they then changed their direction and interviewed the likes of Brendan McCartney, Alan Richardson and Mark Neeld.

The rest is history as they say.

All I will say is Garry Lyon tried what every melbourne supporter wanted at the time and that was go for the experienced coach we needed. Unfortunately we just ran out of options it seems. I dont blame Garry for the Neeld [censored] up.

If the favour was to destroy a team then don't do it. Jimmy was desperate. We were and still are short of leaders Lyon and Flower were the only 2 supporters believed in. He knew he was out of his depth. Lyon broke my heart destroying the side I love I can't trust him ever again. I was shattered when they didn't go for Sheedy.

Rubbish he's a [censored] fence sitter. He's done enough to ruin the club. NO MORE!

Seriously, had enough of this agenda against him, fair enough you didnt like the decision with Neeld, he has said he got it wrong, you dont even have to like him, but he hasnt ruined the club and to suggest otherwise is just ignorance of the highest order. This is the problem with a large portion of teh supporter base, they look for blame everywhere else in stead of teh core of the club.

Also while im at i thought this tweet from the official Cheersquad was classless, cheap and very disrespectful..

Although tonight’s performance is as Garry says, he will forever be remembered for bringing in Neeld. To begin a complete deestroyation of the MFC. That’s some sort of legacy, Garry.

Gary head coach. Ox & Neita forward coach, Jackovich kicking, Alistair Nicholson defense, Travis Johnstone midfield. Troy Chaplin promoted to head of football dept. What could go wrong?

It's almost as if they're better suited to waving pom poms than making public comments.

His time has passed.

This won't be popular but I don't think jumping on the coaching carousel again is the answer.

It was a disgraceful tweet. Thankfully they took it down after his brother gave them a serve.

He's a past player he's fair game. Get over it another one who can't go past the player he was. You my friend are a joke

Of course he is fair game, but your vitriol is misguided and narrow minded. Instead of the set you have against him, open your eyes and move on and acknowledge that the club has more pressing problems than a past player who appointed a bad coach a while ago... you see Carlton did that twice with Malthouse and Bolton.. yet they have moved on and are getting it together, St Kilda did it twice, they have moved on, the Lions did it twice, they have moved on.

I suggest you move on...

Yes indeed. He was a Gun player.
What Daz wrote above is what i heard, Neeld wasn’t the only candidate approached, Ross Lyon and Clarkson were  hunted...

And Garry had nothing to do with the Bailey appointment, Dean would have been a great Coach if the Club itself wasn’t so unstable at the time

Rubbish Lyon admitted on Radio when he was on MMM that he picked Bailey and it was a mistake. Your only saying that because he is dead he was a ****house coach let the players run all over him.

Oh really, you’re a mind reader now.
Paul Gardner was The President when Bailey was appointed. The appointment was via a panel.
we should have chosen Sheedy, but that was not Dean’s fault

I am sure Dean thinks highly of you too

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
