Mate of mine is a Carlton supporter and also a Gabba Trust member and went Saturday using his Trust tickets and said there were a few thousand there, mainly Carlton supporters as North have limited number up here. This is what I don't get. You can have a few thousand at a Carlton/North game but 500 only for Melb/Port. In any case it is not the fault of the club ( but should not stop them lobbying the AFL) as this mate tried to get me into the Trust on Thursday and he got replied it is all closed so Gabba members are also  not allowed.It has to be the AFL and/or Gabba as Govt. also have said you can have 50% capacity at games.

Sounds very unfair you can't get a ticket and it sounds like you love the Dees as much as anyone in QLD.

Just play the game behind closed doors.

What is the point of having 500 people? You can barely hear or see the crowd when watching GABBA games this year . Infact there's been numerous game that Fox and ch 7 have put on the canned noise despite there being a crowd in QLD.

Also sounds like the ticketing allocation has no integrity about it.

Play it behind closed doors, as per the earlier rounds.

Why not sell as many tickets as QLD gov. will allow and then set your staff levels accordingly.

That’s what I would’ve said, make the cut off for buying the tickets Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning so it gives them the opportunity to staff the ground correctly. 500 tickets is a joke.

An absolute joke alright.

Went to our 'home' game on Sunday night and was told they were expecting to get a bit over 3000 people.  I don't know the final numbers, but I suspect the 3000 was about right.  Of those 3000, it felt like probably 2800 of them were Lions supporters - so much for it being our home game.

If the AFL are saying they are only prepared to release a total of 500 tickets to other games featuring all interstate teams:

a) That's totally rank and yet another example of the AFL doing over the top favours for interstate expansion teams;

b) 490 of the 500 tickets should be released to the home team first to at least give them some chance of something vaguely representing a home game.  Port have plenty of home games in Adelaide.

 

The MFC is getting totally bent over here.

I was lucky enough to fluke one ticket through my Queensland Cricketers Club membership. My son missed out and is resorting to various underhanded means to acquire said ticket. I am looking forward to a fine, clear evening and a dry track which suits us better than the wet I feel.

First time poster, long time reader

As a Brisbane based supporter and member Im disappointed to say the least that I can’t go to the footy on Thursday night. I took my two daughters to the Gold Coast on Sunday night and although it was a disappointing result the three of us loved being at the game.

I was looking forward to taking my eldest daughter on again on Thursday night!

I too rang the footy club today to enquire about getting a couple of tix to be told the AFL had made the decision to limit the spectator numbers to 500 because it would cost them too much to open the ground up to more fans! I also emailed the AFL....no response of course!

At a time when fan engagement has to be at a premium for the AFL I can not understand this decision even if it costs them a few more dollars. They are spending a fortune for the Victorian clubs to stay in hubs....surely spending a few extra dollars to let as many fans watch the game live is the right thing to do.

This 100% is a problem. I understand the AFL wanting to minimise costs but everyone is suffering right now and the AFL have put forward the argument that the game running is a positive distraction for the country. It's a bad look for a stadium that is able both legally and in size to have more people is practically empty.

I'm not sure if anyone as these contacts but if possible I would write an open letter/email stating basically all of what you've said, and also put in that it's creating an unfair bias towards the clubs that belong to the hub states, and email it to Glen Bartlett, Gary Pert, and Gil McLachlan, while also emailing the likes of Mark Robinson, Caroline Wilson, Gerard Whateley, Hutchie, and basically anyone you can link in on it. Post it on twitter, facebook, basically everywhere to get maximum exposure because it is actually a disgrace that they are stopping fans from going to a game by choosing to be cheapskates and not providing the staff.

I have to imagine there are at least 1000-2000 people who would be keen to go to the game, even as neutrals missing sport.

What an absolute joke!! I cannot believe this though I should not be surprised. If I was a Queensland based supporter I would be furious! A once in a lifetime chance to see the Demons play multiple times over the course of a few weeks and they're locking people out. People having to try and scalp tickets like it's a bloody grand final! Not good enough the club needs to make some noise about this and put pressure on the AFL they need to go into bat for our supporters

Is it the same for the Bulldogs/Tigers game at Metricon tomorrow? The Collingwood/Sydney game next week??

It is, and it's also easy to shrug it off by saying "well Melbourne is in lockdown and won't be seeing any live footy for the entire year so who cares" but if you're going to lump this in with first world problems then you equally can't worry or complain about anything to do with the club or the game.

They're playing games, they've opened it up to crowds, they should be making it consistent in seating availability. Base it on government guidelines not how tight the hip pocket is.

I don't want to be a pain and bore you Dee supporters but as you can see from my initial post and your support on this I'm pee'd off and will not let it go as I am now convinced the AFL/Gabba are playing with us and being very disrespectful to the MFC. Not convinced at all I will get tickets for even the Magpies game. Following is a email I sent to my local Qld Govt member who also happens to be the Sports Minister in Mick De Brenni and I CC'd in the ABC, Fox, AFL & MFC

Finally as a Melbourne member normally each year all I can get to see up here is when we play Lions or Suns and now in 2020 due to the fact that most of the games are being played up here because of the Virus issues down south we all were excited to pay our money and watch them play other teams only to be told it will not be the case.

I need to let you know of this and no doubt you will do nothing or pass the buck!! It’s a real shame that we are unable to watch LIVE this game on Thursday.

I actually have a feeling this is a Gabba thing.

Work colleague of mine is a WA Eagles member working in Brisbane for a year.  Couldn't get tickets to an Eagles game at the Gabba (the Eagles balloted for their Qld members, but wouldn't let interstate members in on that either), but he no problems getting tickets to Carrara/Metricon.

Like you I attended Metricon on Sunday and there were way over 500 people there.

I like the Gabba, but Metricon was actually far easier to get in and out of for me driving - can the MFC please request that the rest of our 'home' games be played at Carrara so that more MFC members can attend?

 

P.S. I'd also like to be going on Thursday night, but my wife is working, so daddy duties beckon, but I'd be ropeable  if I was able to attend and couldn't go.

This also begs a few other questions to me:

1.  How many SEQ based MFC members are there and;

2.  Why only 1 free allocated ticket per member?  As part of my Interstate membership, I previous recall getting two or three free members tickets to MFC home games in Melbourne.  Since there are no games in Melbourne and not likely to be, why can't the AFL extend this to those able to attend or otherwise Melbourne home games in Qld?

 

This is rank arrogance by the AFL asides from TV rights, footy club memberships are one of the things that keeps footy clubs and the AFL afloat.  It would be far more ecconomical for me to purchase one or two individual game tickets than spend my $100+ dollars per year for interstate membership.  The AFL is shiiting on the people that keep it great.

Furthermore, real crowds make for so much better atmosphere for TV broadcasts than fake sound technicians canned applause.

Come on AFL, Gabba and QLD gov - get with the program.

I've see  Annastacia  getting on the news quite a lot lately spruiking how the AFL grand final could be held in Queensland.

Well if she bloody well wants it, then time to start looking after the actual supporters of the game and not just be in it for the TV exposure for Qld and the brags.
