We need a small defensive stopper to replace Jetta, possibly a second wingman, a second natural small forward and a mature back up key forward. The question is whether we believe these players already exist on our list and the importance of filling the role vs $$$ we’ll spend. If Saad is any chance of leaving Essendon he is where I would prioritise. Possibly the best pound for pound defender in the game and also provides great attacking run. However as raised we dont have draft currency to make it happen. I am a massive fan of Zach Williams and he could also fill this role and provide great variation across our midfield but I question his durability. He is a free agent so we could make it happen if we could convince him and shuffle the cash. Otherwise with list reductions and lower spending I would just be looking for the right player that maybe is not getting opportunity at his to fall our way. Whilst In contract one that I would look at Is Jack Sinclair at StKilda. Seems to be on the outer, offers good carry, speed and polish and Is quality both on wing and as forward, Richo would Also be in the known. As far as tall forwards go I am comfortable to invest in a combo of Weid, TMac, Jackson, Petty and not spend the cash. It is showing more that there is less need to spend big $$$ on your big forwards to gain success.

Lockhart Baker Jordan Sparrow and Chandler plus Bedford may solve those issues you feel need solving

Between Rivers and Lockhart I am certain Jets and Hibbo are covered nearly at present.

The others are unknown with no 2020 form so a work in progress here.

Trade time will be vital and Petty still carries a big white KFP or KDP in the future but Sam and Oscar are taking strong steps to make their careers long and successful.

Time is if the essence day 12 mths and let's see where we are but have eyes open from that trade gem from another Club!

Tom Hawkins is a Free agent i believe and the Cats may look to go down the youth path, maybe he's someone we could look at?

would certainly help accelerate the development of Weid and give Tommy some support.

I would personally. Transition into a forwards coach type role.

His leadership would be beneficial on the likes of Weideman and Jackson.

Women's team trades (Sorry to appropriate this men's team thread - and I don't know the protocols there - but I'm not confident to start a thread, and I'm not sure how much interest there is anyway? Alternatively, sorry if this is somewhere already on another thread! Anyway...?

What do people think of yesterday's 'Age' report that 2xAllOz and occasional captain Elise O'Dea and MFC 'royalty' Harriet Cordner, as well as Aliesha Newman, Bianca Jakobbson, Maddy Guerin and Katherine Smith are all 'on the table', to "reinvigorate our list" and "improve our draft position". A fair chunk of the squad! And the first four are linked to specific clubs.

What could this say about the club (if they want out, though I'd be surprised...) or what effect might the shopping around have on the playing group (if they don't)? It strikes me that draft position is a bit of a crapshoot this year anyway, with even less exposed form than usual? And what "reinvigoration" is needed, given the presumable spur of last season's unfinished business?

Thoughts?

What would we get for Melksham. Its time to replace him.

Nothing, because he's not being traded. He signed a 3 year deal last year and is in the leadership group.

Goody loves what he is doing for the forward structure.

I'm happy to back Weideman, Jackson, TMac and Petty for the moment, but Richmond just won a flag by spend big $$$ on Lynch.

And they won one before that (and should have been 2) without spending big $$$. I reckon would have won the last one with or without him.

Fair enough.

Hi TR-B.

AFLW chat is in another DL forum:  https://demonland.com/forums/forum/37-afl-national-womens-league/

There are some threads on draft etc.  One that might cover your post is

I've copied your post to that thread m and will post response there.

Not many DL's venture to the AFLW side which is a bit of a shame.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
