http://www.melbournefc.com.au/Default.aspx...mp;newsId=39605

Good news. plus junior and green getting a rest.

squad:

Nathan Jones, Clint Bizzell, Ben Holland, Brock McLean, Matthew Bate, Brad Miller, James Frawley, David Neitz, Daniel Ward, Adem Yze Lynden Dunn, Travis Johnstone, Chris Johnson, Brad Green, Daniel Bell, Brent Moloney, James McDonald , Russell Robertson, Nathan Brown, Jared Rivers, Cameron Bruce, Byron Pickett, Jeff White, Ryan Ferguson, Aaron Davey, Mark Jamar, Nathan Carroll, Matthew Whelan

EDIT: this listed squad and the description seem to be out of whack ... green and macca listed and buckley/garland not. spose this article has come from afl.com.au however ....

Wise move with Pickett, he needs as close to a real match as possible to build his fitness, playing him with Sandy is really just a waste of time.

One hopes that the rests are real rests and don't become rests of the 4 to 6 week variety that we see sometimes around the club.

They've both played 4 pre-season games, which makes them the only 2 (along with Bruce and Yze*) senior players to have played all practice games. They deserve/ require a rest.

*Yze will get his rest with Sandy in a couple of weeks time

The squad was up on afl.com.au early this afternoon. It has Geen and Macca out with Buckley and Garland named.

there's nothing wrong with Green or Macca.... all the senior players, except those mentioned , have been rested at some point this pre-season...

Bruce has played them all cos he's a machine and Yze doesn't need a rest as he hasn't been near the footy

Very pleased to hear Pickett and McLean are in... both incredibly valuable players and we need them cherry for round 1

BBP's Lofty Prediction for Saturday.

Adem Yze to kick 5 goals, 11 marks, 28 possessions, 6 tackles, 11 'one' percenters, and be everyone's best friend again!!!

PS - Anyone making the trip down the highway? I'll be there.

Saturday

GEELONG v MELBOURNE at Skilled Stadium, 2pm

GEELONG: Steven King, Jimmy Bartel, Andrew Mackie, Travis Varcoe, Brad Ottens, Kane Tenace, Joel Corey, Joel Selwood, Charlie Gardiner, Shannon Byrnes, Nathan Djerrkura, Matthew Egan, Cameron Mooney, Henry Playfair, Nathan Ablett, Mark Blake, David Johnson, Matthew Scarlett, Brent Prismall, Paul Chapman, Darren Millburn, David Wojcinski, Corey Enright, Cameron Ling.

MELBOURNE: Simon Buckley, Nathan Jones, Clint Bizzell, Ben Holland, Brock McLean, Matthew Bate, Brad Miller, James Frawley, David Neitz, Daniel Ward, Adem Yze, Lynden Dunn, Travis Johnstone, Chris Johnson, Colin Garland, Daniel Bell, Brent Moloney, Russell Robertson, Nathan Brown, Jared Rivers, Cameron Bruce, Byron Pickett, Jeff White, Ryan Ferguson, Aaron Davey, Mark Jamar, Nathan Carroll, Matthew Whelan.

Garland was impressive last week at Sandy, Byron has reached his weight target and Holland proved he was over his hip injury.

The thing that pleases me most about this squad is Brent Moloneys name again being listed, suggesting his revival is gathering a nice pace. He seemed to get through the 2 1/2 quarters he played last week rather well, having a growing influence as the game

went on. If we can get 20 games out of him this year, we'll be travelling very nicely.

With that list, we have no excuses.

Come the season proper, injuries will force us to field worse teams than this and expect a win.

I know its down at KarBogan Park, but its time to start showing something.

"With that list, we have no excuses. "

keeping a lid on our intensity will be inevitable...how many times do we read of injuries occuring in that 'last preseason hitout'...id be more than happy for the players just to get a good run around and come back fitter for the experience and with no injuries (not even niggles)

Does anyone know if KROCK-FM (3GL) are broadcasting the match this arvo.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
