Conspiracy theory:

It would have been our home game , likely without a crowd.

With the alternating home team plan, Collingwood gets the spoils next year

no thanks....want a few easy ones to buildup some degree of momentum... go 0-3 or 0-4 and the season is over

Seriously...it should just be a random draw with no manipulation whatsoever but we know it wont be. There will be the usual Friday night bias and we will get the Sunday afternoon graveyard shift along with the Saints, Freo, Dogs etc

And Richmond for Anzac Eve adding insult to our financial injuries of 2020.

Eddie said on Footy Classified last Wednesday night that the 2020 draw will become the 2021 draw, with only change been that Easter falls on a different date. This will save the afl extra work.

Wow.  That’s fine by me.
Except Eagles (away) and Giants would be a tough start.

Yep, my initial thoughts as well joeboy. The filth always have an ulterior motive.

It is a shame that the mnd big freeze won't go ahead in front of a massive crowd. It has actually turned queens birthday into an enjoyable day. Collingwood would probably want it because they know next year it's there home game where I presume crowds will be back.

But on the important side of things it's great to see Neale still around, his 6th mnd event he will be part of. Everyone can still support him and his foundation by purchasing a beanie.

It should be Pert's number 1 goal to negotiate with the AFL to have next year's Queens Birthday and Anzac eve games as our home games next year or else seek compensation. So much of our revenue would be predicated on those two events.

To miss out in 2020 because of COVID-19, and have Richmond and Collingwood enjoy the home gate spoils in 2019 and 2021 just can't happen in my book.

As for Collingwood in round 2, it may be a great time to play them as they would have lost a lot of momentum from their excellent round 1 performance.

On the other hand, we could be 0-2 and holding up the ladder if the Pies are serious and we continue on with GOODW-IN-EFFICIENT football as per 2019 and round 1 2020.

i think you'll find both dees and the filth are keen on this as the first game of the new season, as it falls in that sweet spot of mid-june when they think they might be able to get up and running again

however, i can't see how it could possibly make sense - why start the season on a monday arvo, meaning these two sides have a week off the following thurs-sun, presuming that the plan is that matches will only be played in 'normal' timeslots as they have said as recently as yesterday?

No way in hell should we be missing out on spoils for next year from the Queens Birthday and ANZAZ eve. As has been very smugly reported by Tigers and Pies head honchos they are two of the clubs that had there been no season they would've been ok, so clearly we need it more.

The worst we should accept is shared spoils from both games next year with us getting the home match the following year.

Surely your not thinking that  'Edee McSquire',  is a conniving,  manipulative person,  of selfish motives,  are you,  'jb'.?

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
