WOW!  We take out 3 players who are over 190cm and bring in two (Spargo, Chandler) who are about 175cm.  Add 2 other sub 178cm players (Viney, JKH).  Other additions: ANB and Stretch aren't exactly all at 180cm.  Then there is Jones who is also 180cm.

We have gone from giants to pigmys!

Expect a big loss - except Sydney is also tanking!

Edit: we are going to be physically monstered.  Sydney has two 'short' players Jack and Papley who are both 178cm but strong.  We will be like lambs to the slaughter.

It's inspirational...The FD are genius

Wonder if there any vacancies at Tawonga ??

The Club has switched off...

Last chance to show we deserve Friday night games and we kiss it goodbye at the selection table.  Brilliant management by the club.

Pick #2 isn't worth the damage we are doing to ourselves on so many fronts.

The irony will be the AFL will give it to GCS and the next half dozen picks are relatively even.

Only Melbourne can shoot themselves in the foot like this.

Even if we win it is because Sydney will try to lose more than we do so it will be a dreadful game to watch.

Glad I'm out for dinner.

Protect the front and centre of packs and bring the ball to the ground.

Plenty of switching of play and run, run, run!

you dont REALLY believe any of that do you  ??

Who the heck is going to relieve Max?  An underdone, skinny Lever? Frost?

Or are we going to run Maxy into the ground as well.

Laughable team composition!!

It's what I interpreted from training this morning, (I added the run part).

Drills of the backline palming low balls down.

Slow simulations (to set up structures) then getting them to transition quickly from one wing to the other.

Tanking.

Spargo in at the expense of Hunt is a laugh.

Rookie lister Chandler to debut off average vfl form. Best of luck to him, but he hardly banged the door down.

The changes look odd on their face but look a bit deeper.

May, OMac and Petty are all forced outs.

Preuss and Keilty have stunk in the seniors this year.

We don't have an obvious second ruck, but Sydney barely have an obvious first ruck (they're playing a rookie, Hayden McLean, who's played four games).

I'm not sure I agree with ANB/Stretch/Spargo over Baker/Hunt, but it's not like Baker or Hunt played well last week. Indeed, both were pretty poor.

Looks to me to be a bit horses for courses when it comes to the talls, and maybe a last chance saloon sort of thing for ANB and Stretch.

Hunt omitted! Has he ever been run off a wing for an extended run of games to see what he offers as an outside receiver with pace? Surely Pruess should come in just with instructions to sit up forward and crash packs and bring the ball to ground to help our newly selected fleet of midgets! As it stands we have a small forward line and no doubt our midfield will still bomb it high and long if under pressure. Good luck Dees we will need it!

Well we're buoyed by the naming of another demon debutant. Congratulations Kade Chandler. He seemed genuinely excited and grateful for the opportunity going by his interview today. Will be tuned in tomorrow evening fingers crossed for an improved team performance and a worthy debut performance from the young man.

Two talls out, Preuss did well at Casey.  Who will relieve Max in the ruck?   Spargo?

Making far too much sense Earl. I too think Hunt could be a winger.

We must be going the Lilliputian gambit up forward. ..inspired.

No amount of luck will help.

We've  already lost this...again...by design.

Fmd we're  clever.

I hope a scout from Syd was there taking notes so as to be sure to let us do ANY of that.

Hey Kev I got to training at 9.30 and it was all but over at 9.47! Do you know what time it started? This is twice I have shown up for the captains run at the advertised time to see them walk off after 15 or 20 minutes! I am not expecting a 2 hour slog for the captains run but 15 or 20 minutes of low intensity drills and some goal kicking seems hardly worth setting up for, let alone advertising to fans!

I don't subscribe to the idea that these elite sports people are tanking.

They have a mind set of wanting to win otherwise they wouldn't be in the top tiers of AFL.

The club would have plans much more complicated than my interpretations.

Giving players a go at this time of the year and given our predicament on the ladder, I can see the benefits of the shuffles. Especially on a Friday night. It is good for them and I hope they play well.

They want to feel good with a win and I think they hurt more than us spectators when they lose. (Basic psychology).

Ps. I enjoy the humour.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
