I was born in the month after Melbourne's last premiership victory in 1964. I have never seen Melbourne win an AFL/VFL day premiership. I endured ridicule from my classmates throughout my 12 years of schooling for barracking for Melbourne. The ridicule has not stopped.  It was hell being a Melbourne supporter in the 70s and 80s. During this time, my father took my brother and me to football games aligned with our opposing teams. Hawthorn enjoyed great success then, and they usually won. Melbourne usually lost.

How to recover...

We came close again in the day competition that year (1987) but lost the infamous preliminary final after the siren against the Hawks. It steeled us to make the GF the next year but once again the Hawks were too good in 1988. Melbourne and Essendon were particularly strong

In the finals (2018), we beat Geelong and Hawthorn. Think about that for a moment.

These were two sides that had smashed us for almost two decades and to defeat them in front of 90,000 people (the majority of which were Melbourne supporters.

Goodwin is not the man for the job, we have been playing the same football all year and he has been unable to rectify our pathetic disposal. He’s had ALL YEAR to do something about it and has done nothing, we should give Roos $2 million to come back for 3 years. Goodwin is a ‘nice guy’ but he’s a useless coach, if we are going to do anything next year we need to get rid of Goodwin!!!!!

We have had poor disposal before this year. It didn't just happen in 2019 because Goodwin can't coach. Sorry to pop your little bubble

But it was a step up in class when we came up against the Eagles. Geelong have addressed a lot of their issues since last year and the Hawks are just paddling. Injuries aside I cannot see we have addressed any of the issues the Prelim game exposed. Good sides hurt and learn from preliminary final defeats we seem to think it was good to get there.

Good for you for flying the flag. My story of support is somewhat similar but a few years older so I can remember as a 7 year old us winning in 64. I went straight over to the paddock and practiced drop kicks from full back.

We had beaten the Eagles at home only a few weeks before.

Yes we have, but it’s not just poor disposal, it’s bombing into forward line, not even looking to pass it to one of us, it’s complete lack of motivation, basically putting in for 60 min in a game then giving up, you’re right, it’s not just poor disposal it’s everything, and there’s  no signs of rectifying any of the problems!!

If Goodwin is not the right man for the job then who is the right man? Please don't say Roos as he is not interested.

Was Goody the right man in 2018?.  Will he be the right man in 2020?  Let's wait and see before you judge him. 2020 Goody will be judged one way or another.  In the mean time give him some  space.

I had thought injuries and key players being out of form were the reason behind our woeful season.

I no longer blame just these two factors. Goodwin’s had a poor year.

Goodwin will be gone soon unless we invest in a quality Assistant Coach to help him and give him some quality draft picks to lift our team and supporters. We need a young forward line like Brisbane have that are talented and ruthless.

I support Goodwin as well, and will until the club decided he is not the man for the job. However I have noticed the way Rhyce Shaw talks and challenges his players and can not remember Goodwin ever doing this. Check out the pic in todays Herald Sun " the look in his eyes as he is staring Jamie Macmillan say it all.

After a very breif few weeks telling people I supported the wees and poos in around grade 4, for better or worse I became permanently attached to out mighty Demons on that fateful day out at the Western Oval in 87.

Since then the team has frustrated the duck out of me with it's innate ability to squander talent and the opportunity for ultimate success to absolutely [censored] luck with injuries and the inability to stand up when the opportunities we were presented were upon us.  Still I wouldn't have it any other way with respects to the team I support.  Our days will come again and the glory awaits us will be all the sweeter.

Never expected we would beat the WC in the prelim last year.  They had the benifits of multiple weeks off to freshen up their list, when it's quite clear now that we were totally shagged from backing up in must win games for weeks on end ... and they had the home ground advantage with an automatic 15 free kicks for advantage  (which admittedly they hardly needed that day).

I never expected that we would win the flag this year, but similarly never expected our win/loss record to be such total poo at this stage of the season either.  I don't put as much blame at the feet of Goodwin as many here do, but fully understand and agree that a fair bit of the buck stops with him and he hasn't exactly inspired much of a resurgence within this season which is concerning.  That all said, I don't think our performances post the bye have been as putrid as has been made out, but without actually winning more games it's hard to say that we have really made huge progress or provide confidence in what is being rebuilt either.

I'm giving this crop the benifit of the doubt and see what they can produce over the off season in terms of turning things around.  We still have a realitively youngish list, but at the same time they are also getting to the point in their maturity when that can't be used as an excuse moving forward.  As much as anything from Goodwin, I'm looking for the younger core of the group like Harmes, Brayshaw, Oliver, Viney, Trac, Salem, Fritta, Hore, Weid, Lever, Hunt, Spargo, Hannan etc to really take the situation by the scruff of the neck and take responsibility for going to that next level in performance, consistently and in-game maturity over the next season or two.  Goodwin might be the man at the helm, but it's the players that are the only ones who can really determine if this becomes a champion team or just another of the also rans that we have been for the best part of half a century.

I'm backing them all - GO THE MIGHTY DEMONS!!!
