Lions by 7 points 20 mins gone in 2nd quarter

Lions by 70 points at 3/4 time ?

I really didn't think we'd be passing anyone on percentage this season, but the Saints look like they have decided to dangle that particular carrot in front of us.

Compared to their early season run, it would seem that it is their defensive side which is really falling away.

Scores against the Saints

Rounds 1 to 5  - 84, 65, 71, 69, 55 = 68.8

Since round 6 - 97, 114, 88, 112, 55 (Blues), 139, 76 = 97.3

And tonight's running tally of 113 with 20 minutes to go.

could be richo's last quarter in charge right now

Richo should probably start updating his resume, methinks.

You're just saying that because he has had a longer tenure already than any St Kilda coach except Allan Jeans.

Fun fact - even if Richardson coaches out the full season, finishing with an entire season longer in charge than Thomas or Lyon, he will still have coached fewer games than either of them!

Anyone reckon port are a chance??

I may or may not drunkenly bet $50 on port to win. Wines, Dixon and ebert back.

God I hate the cats

puddy tatts have a terrible post-bye record

so yes, the pear are a massive chance

Wort fans try to con umps for constant frees.

Dodgy bunch that should be turned back at every border crossing even in the off season.

Poor poor puddy cats. Had to leave their cosy home and and travel long way and play footy at someone else's house.Puddy cats didn't like dat.

Bad result for our tiny, tiny finals chances.

Worth it to see Jeelong lose...

Dear afl

Can you please fixture us to play geelong the week after the bye next year.that would be great.

It's an amazing record they have with them losing the week after the bye for the past 10 years or so.

Knowing our luck, we’ll play them after the bye next year and they’ll break that hoodoo against us.

Go Doggies.

30 minutes of footy with no goals

footy is alive and well!! ?

That was a bog ordinary Pies vs Bulldogs game.

So frustrating that clubs playing poorly are doing enough to rack up the wins:  WCE, Pies, Port, Crows, Lions haven't set the world on fire but there they are at the top of the tree.

It was really a year for the taking.  Will be hard to watch an average team take out the premiership.

David King's interesting insight into how-port-adelaide-picked-apart-geelongs-game-plan

"...Geelong’s modus operandi had been for all the forwards to stay on the ground, with the exception of the marking target...the Cats’ smalls such as Gary Ablett and Gryan Miers were setting up around bigger marking targets like Tom Hawkins as if they were attending a stoppage...“We saw on the weekend Ken Hinkley say to his defenders, ‘one-on-one, no one leaves their man. You’re responsible to a role, you’ll stay on the ground and we’ll trust the guy in the contest".

Simple roles with simple instructions.  Hinkley caught the cats napping.

We like to play 'our brand' but even when it works it often is not enough.  There is a lot to be said for different tactics to counter opp strengths.  Hinkley has been very good at that this year.  Dismantled us, the cats and will do it to other unsuspecting coaches this year.

This year 1 vs 1 defence has become the winning formula.  We still play mostly a zone/team defence.  Who knows how long it can continue as opps know how to counter that game plan.

Looking fwd to see how we adjust our defence plan and any tricks Goodwin finds to dismantle other team's game plans.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
