A moral Victory is not enough mate, Collingwood made the grand final last year with half the team out. The reality is none of our depth players stand out and all the kids we have drafted in the past 3 years bar hore look like making the cut

The last 3 years include;

2016 - Mitch Hannan

2017 - Fritsch and Sprago

2018 - Hore and Lockhart.

You’re right none of these look like making the cut.  Maybe do some research before making comments.

Maynard should have been let go years ago??! The bloke has been in the system for 4 years and came from playing basketball.

We have 15 on our injury list which shows our depth is very good.

The peanut gallery is out again

He's 27, he clearly has no pace and tricks to make the AFL grade, if clubs are so willing to get rid of premierships such as Mitchell and Lewis why is it so hard to cut an average basketball recruit, he's no Mason cox

The best things about Lever's game yesterday was that he played around 70% at least, was not scared to go up in a pack and he came out unscathed.

That being said it was an unremarkable game. He was outmarked in a body on body marking duel in the third quarter.

Needs a few weeks at least from what I saw.

Spargo did not look close to making the 22 prior to injury and couldn't get a kick at vfl level. He is too small and slow to make the cut. fritsch is a depth player, too skinny and poor footskills, Lockhart depth but likely prospect and hannan yes he has been a good pick up. But the amount of stuff ups is extrodinary

??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️

All the blokes you are talking about are playing regular senior footy, they have been picked mid to late in the draft.

Spargo was super last year and out of form this year but this is only his 2nd year.

Fritsch is to skinny and can’t kick?? What games do you watch?  He is a beautiful kick and is used as the bloke to take the kick to break the game open.  This is a difficult kick and even the best kicks in the game will turn these over at some stage.

I arrived at halftime and saw him outmarked in a 1v1 contest 3 times which resulted in his opponent kicking goals. I definitely think he needs a couple more weeks at Casey but yes it's definitely a positive he got through unscathed, he'll be better for the run.

Thanks Matt. The one that really struck me was in the forward pocket. It was a one on one against a bigger bodied opponent. Both were perfectly positioned, the ball was in the air for a while and Lever lost out badly.. simply out-muscled.

Made me have a good look at his body shape. He's light framed and there was an absence of upper body definition. Nothing wrong with that per se but he's no strong man.

Given our injury list I'll take any positive at this stage ?

He commented that he ‘let himself down’ a few times, and was under the ball on a few occasions.  Said it was about timing and match feel.  After a year out, I’ll give him that.

No but drafting should aim to strengthen the best 22 and cut those who can't compete at AFL level when they've had chances. Maynard is clearly not up to it

Amazing though how some blokes can go to other Clubs and look twice as big and go twice as fast, isn't it?

Yes he showed last year his elite qualities are intercept marking and reading of the play, but not great one on one. That’s why May in theory is a great pick up if we can get it to all come together.

Not all players are there to be superstars!

We need at least one or two champions to come from somewhere D11.  Maxy, Clarry & Harmes can't be expected to carry the team for the next 3 to 5 years.

There is a lack of genuine pace, outside run and finishing skills coming through at Casey right now.

Not only that, the general game plan is just a straight ahead kick it long to a contest/bomb into forward line style.  Looking a tad like more of the same at senior level but just worse due to the lessor skill set and talent (to be expected) at this level.

Where's the link up overlap / outside run and finishing skills in general as well as finish coming inside 50?  Guys on a fast break offering leads at the ball carrier under pressure through half forward?  Mobility of forwards to work hard on multiple leads in an attempt to shake opponent and present up in space inside 50 as a free option?  A couple of smalls showing promise at the drop like Chandler & to a lessor degree Bedford.

Any team that has the outside run / carry with half decent skill set plus some decent forwards with a system plus a decent mid field contested team will do well against Casey's present game style and skill set this year IMO and it's already happening.

We are decimated with injuries but you can still have those remaining playing to a decent game style that will be reasonably effective even with a stack of outs.  It will also reinforce winning ways / methods and practices for those that might show promise and remain on the list for when/if  they make it through to senior level.

Casey not only has a depth issue (largely through injuries but also outside of that) but it also has a game style / coaching issue IMHO that will not benefit anyone.  Including those coming through IF they make it.

Game style, run/link up overlap play, foot skills and finish not great at Casey from what I've witnessed this year so far.  More chaos, win the contested, barge through, bomb it in and hope for the best.

LANDSLIDE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons enjoyed the better of their first half against Port Melbourne on Saturday but fell away badly after half time to lose by 43 points.

The Borough enjoyed the early break with the game’s opening two goals but the Demons took control to go out to an 8 point lead at quarter time, an advantage that it held for most of the second term until a late goal to the visitors clawed the lead back to a point.

The Casey ruck of Braydon Preuss and Liam Wale-Buxton were on top for most of the day and they fed their midfields well, especially in the first half.

The change in the third quarter was devastating to the Demons who simply struggled to find the big sticks while Port could not miss. Their key forward in Jordan Lisle was outstanding pulling down marks and booting six for the day. Lisle kicked the first goal of the game in the opening minute but was well held until just before half time. He was too strong in the last half with four goals.

The Borough’s accuracy in front of goal after the main break ultimately resulted in a landslide victory against a tired and depleted Demons.

James Munro (29 touches, 18 tackles) and Corey Wagner (23 disposals, 9 tackles) were outstanding and played their hearts out for the losing team while Tom Sparrow continued to show promise in the midfield.

Jake Lever got through his first game after his ACL injury and showed patches of his defensive brilliance in limited time on the ground.

Casey takes on Williamstown away from home next Sunday and must win to keep their finals hopes alive.

He'll be fine we know he's a quality player. Just quietly the guy who out bodied him was a lump of a lad and was in prime position a couple of times. Moving forward May will take the big boys and depending on match ups id even have Frost in the team just to make sure we can always free up Lever to roam and play the intercept role, I'm not sure where that will leave Marty Hore.

Hore will be pushing lever out for most of the year

Surely Friday night showed that we are not slow.  We cut them to pieces through the middle of the ground with handball chains. That last kick inside 50 is still lacking but having Melksham out makes it look much worse.

i agree we are not perfect and need some more outside players but the previous bloke was saying our recruiting had been horrible the last 3 years which I thought was ridiculous.

We have given away picks for Lever and May and have still found some gems on Hannan, Fritsch and Hore.

We've given away 3 first round picks for two blokes who can't get on the park. One of those rocking up unfit to pre season and sinking beers whilst injured. Our recruiting has been a joke

Give me a spell mate, you have no idea!

Lets get our recruiters to start predicting the future on which players will get injured so we don’t recruit them.

After ACL rupture a player is 6 times more likely to sustain another ACL injury, we gave up 2 first round picks for lever which is massive. May was always a risk given his older age and his history of undiscipline. Just see what happened to him and Campbell brown. That's 3 gun kids who could be running around in the red and blue right now

You make some excellent points Rusty. There's room for imitating the senior team's game plan but there should be time for variation and experimentation

I despair as to whether the vfl comp is anything other than a fitness class. It certainly doesn't seem to improve the chances of players making it at AFL level.

It may just be a fault in the system but it has been prevalent for several seasons

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.
