I loved Clint Bizzell.  He got every ounce of ability out of himself and gave 100% every week.  I still remember the game saving smother against the Dogs when he had a broken hand.  Didn't flinch for a second, just jumped in there for the smother for the team.  Brilliant stuff.

Biz was brilliant and underrated in so many ways. I remember his 2nd and 3rd desperation efforts down the members wing in the semi final against adelaide back in 2002.

And now a passionate Melbourne supporter now days!

Weird thread.

But I do agree that Oscar is the most overrated average key defender defender on demonland.

It's a funny one with certain players. Once they get knocks, (for generally spudding it up) you tend to get this strange reverse group think where posters end up defending a player so vehemently, they end up congratulating what would normally be termed as elementary defensive play. A spoil for instance. Haha.

It's actually a hilarious thing to witness.

Oscar may be okay as a third tall once May and Lever are in the side. But other than his great field kicking (for a key back), he doesn't possess a single trait that excites.

Athletic, agile, fast? No.

Reaction time, awareness, physicality? No.

Intercept player, killing contest beast? No.

General elementary spoiling in a contest? Absolutely hit and miss.

but plays every week & potentially a 200 game player......well and truly in the chocy box!

Bizzell was okay, but geez, we overrate our own.

And this thread is yet another excuse for Werridee to do another best 22. It's Round 2. Do we really need to be doing future best 22s? It's far too early to tell on 3 or 4 of those guys.

Is it really that great?

He's a very reliable field kick who hits his short and mid range targets nicely but if you don't get the ball, don't break the lines and don't deliver inside 50 or even in the corridor it can't be great.

I wonder how healthy he is after hip surgery but it's one of the reasons why I'd like to see him have a long spell at Casey. When he first played he at least showed some desire to run and counter attack. He's actually dropped away from 16.3 to 15.4 to 11.6 disposals a game. Some of that will because the ball has been up our end but that should've been countered by maturing and staying involved in the game more often.

I'm looking not right now but probably the half way point when we get Lever. If we want to be a premiership team we have to make changes our team is still too slow and not enough good ball users.

I've made the tough decision in retiring Jones and Lewis and we have the worst key position player in the comp in O.Mac and we have no small forwards..

B: JETTA, MAY, LEVER

HB: HIBBERD, PETTY, KOLODJASHNIJ

C : HUNT, SALEM, BAKER

HF: MELKSHAM, WEIDEMAN, HANNAN

F: J.SMITH, T.MCDONALD, CHANDLER

FOLL: GAWN, OLIVER, BRAYSHAW

IC: VINEY, JORDON, HARMES, FRITSCH

Kolodjashnij to take Salem's role, Salem into the midfield to add some much needed class.

Hunt and Baker to give us speed on the wings.

Chandler seems like our most gifted small forward unfortunately.

Jordon and Fritsch as our good ball users off the bench.

Thoughts?

Petracca out??? He wasn’t at his best but is super talented and really showed his ability in 2018.  I’ll back in the Trac.

Our Leadership group was very average Saturday.

Makes things very difficult.

And no Lewis.

SJ - saying they were “average” implies that can be worse as well as better and that display was around the middle of the range.

IMVHO Saturday set just about a new nadir .... no positive “leadership moment” comes to mind.  Even as our co captain limped over to toss the coin my heart sank.

The first sentence is blasphemy!!

As for the second - you could have a thread on anything and he'll do a best 22.  Jaguar is our new sponsor, so who are the next best 22 we could have as a sponsor?  No runners anymore?  What are the best 22 ways we can send messages out during a game?  It could do on forever.

I'll have a go. Best 22s are cathartic after a nasty loss. I've bolded those not available against Port

FB          Jetta                   May                    O.McDonald

HB         Hibberd              Lever                  Salem

C           Kolo/Stretch      Oliver                 Fritsch

HF         Melksham          T.McDonald      Neal Bullen

FF          Hannan               Weideman        Garlett/spargo

FOW     Gawn                  Harmes              Brayshaw

INT        Viney                  Vandenberg      Jones                   Petracca

These would be my players just on the outside of selection

Jordan Lewis

Joel Smith

Next in line would be JKH

That is 9 unavailable players I'd pick before some of the guys we played against Port. It'll be good to get a few back in the coming weeks.

NO Jones No ANB and definitely no JKH

On exposed form Jones and ANB are in the team. Others may replace them with time. You can't just cut players, you need to replace them too. There aren't 22 players on our list better than Jones and ANB.

JKH is an emergency. My point was that on exposed form he would be selected before a few who got the nod vs Port. He played some solid games late 2018 and was unlucky to be dropped when Viney came back. I was making a comment on how our current lineup has been hit by injury.

On a side note and not intended as a dig at Jackaub, some of the so called supporters hurling abuse at Jones on the weekend turned my stomach. He was rubbish in the 2nd half, but this is a guy who for many years was the only ray of hope at MFC. His best footy is behind him, but he made a valuable contribution in 2018 and hopefully will do the same in 2019. If I'm wrong and his form has him outside the best 22 the least we can do as supporters is give the man the respect he deserves. He is a legend of this footy club and it is disgusting how quickly some turn on their own.

We are 3 rounds in do we have one? How many holes do we have? Who needs to start hitting form? Who will make a huge difference when they come in? What do we need from the draft?

My team

B: JETTA, MAY, LEVER

HB: HIBBERD, PETTY, FRITSCH

C : HARMES, OLIVER, SALEM

HF: HANNAN, WEIDEMAN, VANDENBERG

F: J.SMITH, T.MCDONALD, MELKSHAM

IC: LOCKHART, PETRACCA, LEWIS, JONES

CASEY

B: WHITE, HUTCHINS, TYNAN

HB: J.WAGNER, FROST, HUNT

C : STRETCH, MAYNARD, KOLODJASHNIJ

HF: C.WAGNER, KEILTY. NEAL-BULLEN

F: GARLETT, T.SMITH, CHANDLER

FOLL: PREUSS, SPARROW, SPARGO

IC: WALE-BUXTON, MUNRO, GENT, BAKER

EMERG: KENNEDY HARRIS, O.MCDONALD, HORE, JORDON, BEDFORD, NEITSHCKE, WALKER, BRADTKE

NEEDS

SMALL BACKS:

Jetta is struggling as is Hibberd. I thought Fritsch showed some good signs against Essendon. Wagner is Wagner and Salem was excellent against Port but has just been going in ther other 2 games. Lewis is getting on and is probably into his last year and lacks pace.

Do we need to go to the draft? I think we do. We need players who can run, carry and deliver the ball hopefully Jordon and Neitshcke can do this but we need more.

TALL BACKS:

May really let us down with his fitness and has let the team down, he needs to be a pillar and he's not out there hopefully he can turn things around. Lever is coming off a knee reco so don't expect miracles. Petty is unknown, Hore looks useless, Frost and O.Mac are useless. It has been a weakness for us this year.

Do we need to go to the draft? Definitely we need a strong player that can run to help out May and Lever unless Petty becomes our saviour.

OUTSIDE MIDS:

We don't really have any. Stretch is out of favour, Baker is untried, Kolodjashnij is finding his feet and Jones is not an outside player. Salem needs to lift in this area and take over the wing.

Do we need to go to the draft? Most certainly most of our picks need to be outside mids that can run, carry and deliver.

INSIDE MIDS:

This is our strength and our weakness because we have too many. Brayshaw and Oliver are holding the team together ATM. Harmes is consistently doing his job. Jones needs to do more or retire.

Do we need to go to the draft? No we have Maynard, Sparrow and Spargo developing. We need Neal-Bullen and Petracca to step up in the midfield if we are going to gain more depth through the midfield.

RUCKS:

Gawn hasn't had a great year but he is still the best ruck in the comp. Bazaar that Preuss isn't there to help him out. Bradtke is developing.

Do we need to go to the draft? It wouldn't hurt but it's not a priority.

SMALL\MEDIUM FORWARDS:

Vandenberg injured has really hurt us his hardness is sadly missed as is Hannan's run from the forward line. Melksham continues his good form and has been dangerous. Petracca and Neal-Bullen have to do more so much more that they are close to getting dropped. C.Wagner has been handy and Lockhart has been a surprise packet. Hunt is more suited forward because he can't kick. Spargo has lost form, Garlett's been injured and Chandler and Bedford are developing. Kenndy Harris is injured.

Do we need to go to the draft? For a bonafide  small forward we do Garlett isn't getting any younger and the aren't quite small forwards or are developing.

TALL FORWARDS

We have struggled without Hogan. T.McDonald has struggled with form and injury. Weideman needs time, J.Smith looked good until they inexcusably played him when injured. Can Keilty or T.Smith give us some hardness that the Weid lacks time will tell. Bradtke is developing.

Do we need to go to the draft? Yes too many unknown forwards to rely on, hopefully there are some key forwards in the draft.

Changed the Casey side. The Casey players aren't worth a pinch of [censored]. White only stays because he is captain. The rest can rot in the local leagues. Melbourne again getting let down by the Casey alignment. Petty dropped and Frost unfortunately into the seniors.

I said in a thread that we would have 11 spots open. It could be 13 if Baker and Petty don't pull their finger out.

So Petty is in your best current team and also next years best team, yet in the Casey game day thread he might be one of 13 players delisted with how he played. Makes sense.

Been saying for years on here that Oscar is a scrubber. He is pretty much our own version of Zac Dawson who will probably cruise to 150 games spudding it up each weekend.

I wish Goodwin grew a set and actually drops him once in a blue moon. Petty showed more in his game against Richmond then Odcar has his whole career.

Richmond JLT we were slaughtered down back for most of the match after the 1st quarter and a half dazzle.

Only other AFL appearance i recall was against the Saints last year and I'm not sure if he got injured but i seem to recall he had pretty much zero impact in that match.

Petty is still a developer.  Like some of his man on man work but his agility is yet to reach AFL level.  But he is only 19.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom
