    The one thing i got out of that articke in Brayden Pruess is already challanging Max Gawn. Since his recruitment, I'm a big believer that we definitely can play 2 ruckman in our side.

    I would like to see Gawn spend more time up forward to really stretch opposition backs like WC did to us in the prelim and Grand Final against Collingwood. 

    Gawn, McDonald and Weideman has the potential to really throw sides out of wack.

    I like Maxy (and Preuss) resting in the forward line and stretching opposition backlines. I also like the prospect of Maxy drifting back deep in the backline and taking those goaline marks. He saved us a few times deep in defence.

    I think you'll find also that Stafford and Gawn will educate Pruess on pushing back into our defense and giving then a chop out. This is what Gawn such a dangerous weapon this year.

    Pruess contested marking is right up there with Gawns, and i feel with a bit of confidence we'll start to see him clunk some good marks around the ground. 

    Wouldn't hurt also to start big Pruessy in the goal square from time to time. Absolute monster of a bloke!

    I don't think we really wanted him doing this, though.  It came out of necessity when Lever got injured.  I think there was a stat showing that after Lever went down we had Max spending more time helping out in the defensive 50, rather than getting a chop out inside our own.  Hopefully when Lever returns, and with the addition of May, that we can have both Max and Preuss causing headaches at stoppages and deep in our forward 50.

    True but with Preussy in the team Max won't tire himself rucking and having to slip back into defence.

    If we nail the way we use these two blokes we'll have another great weapon in our arsenal.

    I hope those in out team who are not tattooed continue to refrain. Not because of any moral or visual concern I have, but because of this. Given players and clubs go to the extreme in trying to get any sports science edge they can get, it seems foolish to me to do something which may have this negative effect on high performance athletes. 

    I probably seem a bit like the coach who told his players not to smoke in the 1970s. But the logic is the same...except you can quit smoking whereas you can't remove tattoos. (I realise there are exceptions to both those claims.)

    Is there some science to your tattoos have a negative effect on high performance assertion?

    Dangerous thinking in my opinion. Even suggesting to players that they shouldn't get tattoos for this reason has the potential to cause derision and be quite harmful to esprit de corps. Lines needs to be drawn, suggesting to players they shouldn't get tats is one.

    I'm old enough to remember sportsmen being derided for suggesting their teammates give up smoking.

      Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

      I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

    • CASEY: Werribee

      The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
