Buckenara's top 30 in order in the Herald Sun has Valente at 23 and Bytel at 28. Granted it does not take into account club need, academy or F/S concessions but has Williams (10), O'Halloran (22), Duursma (13) gone before 23 but the rest you mention still on the board at that point. 

Based on this being the order interested in which combo you take at the two picks.

I like the idea of a tall who can rise above the opponents bodies to mark, only as a tall forward. not a ruckman. These type talls are too easily stopped in ruck duels, by stopping their run at the contest.

Young rucks with this sizable advantage in leap, usually struggle in the bigger leagues... and AFL finals.

Somewhere in the draft, will be a tall forward who goes well by using his body size/strength/aggression... rather than natural spring for advantage.

We are in a critical stage right now of trying to win a premiership. Goodwin and Mahoney will only want players that are absolutely driven to help this club succeed on and off field. The days of the Jack Watts coasting at training are over.

He won't fit into our system.

Honestly if Clark slips down and can grab at 23 he will be what we need. Watch a lot of his school footy and Claremont. Will be a star !

I'm not saying you're wrong, I don't know anything about this kid, but imagine if Hawthorn felt similarly about Cyril Rioli in 2007. 

Imagine if we felt the same about Clayton Oliver when he was a chubby kid who couldn't make the Vic Country squads.

I remember an article that said mid year Oliver didn't even know there was a draft combine. After that he certainly improved a lot with extra fitness sessions but the article you posted was from July 1. I'm much more interested to know what Stack has done in the 5 months since than ruling him out from July. 

Cyril broke his arm in year 12. He didn't do any distance running at the draft camp and had terrible skin folds. He was picked on the basis of his year 10 and year 11 school footy and his pedigree as much as anything. The only thing the Hawks knew was that he stuck around for 4 years of boarding school - even if he did very little schooling, so he was probably going to stick around in Melbourne. They backed in Clarkson, their fitness coach, Chance Bateman's leadership and their culture. 

Watts getting moved on at 26 shouldn't have any bearing on 18 year olds in the draft.

Well i can definitely confirm that is completely untrue,  as there were clubs already taking notice of Oliver when he was playing in the murray busrangers practice matches after battling through OP, Melbourne included. When there was interest of up to 10 clubs mid year and he ramped up his training program by doing extra PT sessions outside of football hours.

And as you say, Cyril had already spent 4 years in Melbourne, so he wasn't in a new territory when drafted by a Melbourne club.

We are a club thats on a serious mission to win a flag. Competitors and driven individuals will be high on Goodys and Jason Taylors shopping list come draft time.

Couldn't find the exact article I remember reading but here's one from Oliver saying he was unsure what the draft combine meant and shocked to know 5 clubs were interested mid season. Clubs had interest in him but that doesn't mean he knew anything about professionalism and the AFL system. Plus he admits his skin folds were 96 after the TAC season!

Here's a story on Roos and the demons team recruiting Oliver. They put time in to learning about his family and his background. Then they set him up to live with the Brayshaw's and then Vanders/Trengove to develop his professionalism. Plus training with guys like Stretch.

I think it's fair to say Indigenous players are more likely to suffer homesickness and missing training and being sat out for a game is a red flag but a red line is too much unless you have more to go on. It's the equivalent of ruling a player out on a bad highlights package instead of just putting it down as a concern and doing more research.

Interesting to hear that Valente & Duursma are among the 20 kids invited to day 1 of the draft and Ian Hill & Curtis Taylor, who have both been comfortably ranked inside the top 20 for the last year or so, are not. 

Dees could have some handy players slide to 23 & 28.

I watched a bit of the TAC GF and, it might've been a bad day but thought Bailey Williams kicking was tres ordinaire. Other than that was great mark and had quite a good game sense. The kicking reminded me a little of our very own Sam Frost, but like I said, might've been an off day.
