I don't really want to lose JH but it seems inevitable now

Just wondering what are our forward options next year if Weed doesn't fire or come on like we all hope or worse still he and/or TMac get injured. We used to have Pedo as a back up but that option no longer exists

Who's is the next option for tall forward

- Joel Smith?

- Sam Frost (can't see that working out well)

- OMac (don't think he can play fwd personally)

- Steven May?

- Max (Is this one of the reasons we are chasing Preuss

- Harrison Petty (tall enough reads play well - do our FD think he could be reinvented as a fwd like TMac?)

they're all options. whether any of those would be considered at selection in that role is another point.

every other club would say the same re: their forward lines anyway.

My concern is that the way things look like panning out we would have a suplus of tall backs but a shortage of tall forwards

We wouldn't need much to go wrong and we would be struggling for tall options in the forward half

Option 1 would be Preuss with Max spending more time forward
Option 2 would probably be T Smith who I assume sticks around for another year
Option 3 is likely a defender - J Smith or Oscar
Option 4 is they probably pick a developing key forward in the draft, most aren't ready to play but some are.

But the confidence in knowing we can get by comes from Melksham, Petracca and Hannan. 3 marking forward types who can hit the scoreboard. Vanders as well.

How many 21 year old key forwards have been best on ground in a final ?

I don't know why so many doubt Weideman.  He's going to be a star.  He's certainly a few years away from his peak, but he'll be very good in 2019.

Good to read of some love for the Weed.

His first final showed that he can do it ..... consistency and reproducibility will develop with time.

Agree, BUT injuries do happen

And competition for spots is a good thing too

Of course.  If Hogan goes we draft another potential key forward.  We may do that if he stays.

Most clubs don't have McDonald/Weideman let alone Hogan/McDonald/Weideman.

West Coast don't win the flag if Kennedy or Darling go down.

You need a little luck to win a flag.  If one of your key forwards gets injured at the wrong time you in all likelihood don't win the flag.

It is what it is.

I'd like to see Sam Frost have a run up forward

Seems like the type who'd be hard to match up on, tall with toe and a few years down back really builds the aerial contest strength

And how was that barrel he unloaded i  the final... Wow, good hoof

Might be the next TMac...?

Worth trying - he may just take to it, well.

Frost said himself he's not suited to it. It's already been tried to limited success. We will draft Max King with pick 6 and trade pick 11 for May.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
