Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

last in GF sprint

Wouldn't read too much into that, Lewis Jetta came second last one year, and he looks like one of the fastest players in the league during games. Half of the runners are probably hung over.

Plus he beat a whole bunch of others to make the final of the sprint in which he came last. So not like he was last out of everyone involved, just last out of those in the final. Think of it as 10th out of the 30 or so involved

I haven't seen hall's name mentioned much here. I know north are reported as his team of choice, but i think he would fit in well at melbourne.

His criticisms are that he is such an outside attacking player, and may not defend or contest hard enough. I feel like we have such a contested team that we may be able to absorb these downsides, similar to the way Sydney and West Coast were able to cover for Lewis Jetta's deficiencies in the contest/defensively.

How about Frost. Tall, strong, can mark, kicks long to position (ask TMac) and runs away from just about anyone. Use him as a target on the way out and as a weapon on the way in.

For those who remember, Richo starred on the wing and, going further back, the toiges used Bourke and Clay, who both played key defence, as wingmen in their heyday.

What a mismatch. Who would want to tag him? Who could keep up in space?

Easy to train and coach. Just tell him to run as hard as he can at the ball and then with the ball.

I really like this out of the box thinking.

Tackles really well to Frosty. His kicking won't be as precise as we like but he roosts it a mile which can be very dangerous. Defenders hate balls launched into the F50 that travel 5 metres more than they expect / further that 90% of players can kick.

Agree. It's rare in our game that anyone get's to run in a straight line, unimpeded for 100 metres. That's why Hogan topped the charts for highest speed clocked. I'd suggest that was on a long straight lead out of the goal square up to a wing.

The really fast players get to top speed (or close to it) quickly, then often make slight adjustments left or right along the way o get through traffic, create an angle, lose an opponent, etc. This slows them down compared to how fast they could go in a straight line but would be much faster than what a player like Hogan could do if he had to do some fancy footwork.

It is a simplistic approach and quite sound thinking, too. He has the attributes that you describe, some in buckets, tiers. Just a bit of sound coaching and tweaking needed - down back and / or outside mid. Very plausible.

Fritschkreig.

Genuine marking / intercept ability, cat like skills and ability to evade.  Beautiful reader of the ball even at this early stage.

Best kicking efficiency of any player not playing as a genuine defender... running at 75%.  The AFL average i believe is around 68%? (approx).  Elite by foot and a fabulous option for that most important kick coming inside 50.

Next best by foot that plays a bit of time through mid field is Salem @ 71.3% efficiency.

Hannan has a bit of pace but well below average by foot running @ 60.7% for the season.  Would need to make a huge improvement in this area to have a genuine impact off the wing.

Stretch... FWIW in the 2 matches he did play he averaged 68% kicking efficiency.  A much better indicator is the career stat (38 games) where he averages the same.  Not bad at all and career disposal efficiency is right up there @ 79% (about 6% above AFL average) so he must be elite by hand.  Worth considering but probably not the greatest mark / intercept player which you would think is needed to be effective off a wing.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
