It's the media talking the club up not the the club themselves, the media are the best in drooling over players and clubs like lovesick schoolgirls.

Not right!

Wasn’t it Peter Jackson that said about our rebuild that he expected us to be playing finals in 2016?  Hmmmm.

That's rather ironic considering you post on and read Demonland

Maybe if the players stopped doing the same stupid stuff when it counts against good opposition then the comments may change.

As big Carl posted “the definition of insanity”.......

Against the weaker sides we get a lot of goals from inside 15m. We are number 1 for that stat.

Against the strong sides I suspect our shots at goal are from much further out because they don't let us get out the back.... I don't have the evidence to back that up but I think it probably holds true...

I think I agree, again without stats to back it up. It also partly explains why Jeffy goes missing against the better sides.

I don't know, a couple of posters seem to think he said that but I can't recall it. I went to the presidents lunch when we played St kilda at etihad as home game in 2016 and I was standing next to Peter Jackson and someone from AHG whilst some speeches were being made and I recall one of the speakers mentioned about making finals that year and he scoffed at the suggestion and made a comment along the lines l of a long way to go yet to the bloke from AHG.And yes the media do carry on like lovesick schoolgirls over certain players and clubs.

Can't wait to see what cruelty they have in store for us next year! Maybe we could pull a North, win our first 12 matches then blow every match thereafter?

Not like we haven't done it before.
Made it a speciality during the "up" years under Daniher.

Hutchy isn't. The rest of the panel were still confident and talking us up. For them it's disappointing. Hutchy is simply stating he won't fall for the hype until we do something relevant.

Hutchy is full of sheet.
Was all over us last year.
Was continually telling them he was "Bullish" about the Demons when arguing with Lloyd.

The definition of insanity:

“Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome”

Like continually bombing the ball inside 50 with our eyes shut like morons.

stats show we can get the ball into our scoring zone against good and bad sides, kicking straight is the issue. if we can solve that, i.e. get the guys to take more care then we can potentially beat any side. Two or three years ago we were playing roo's defensive game if someone had said we would be 2nd highest scoring team for the year, playing attractive football i would not have believed them. We turned a lot of things around and we are very much still work in progress. All or even a little going well for us we play finals this year. We have the potential to win one or two finals. I hope like hell we do so that it gives the players a taste and a hunger for next year when we will really be making our charge with hopefully everyone fit.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
