Noticed that Hibberd pulled up sharply after kicking the ball late in training. Seemed to be a quad strain to me, walked/limped off immediately.

Re Guthrie above - When they split out the seconds players I noticed both Tyson and J Smith were involved in a 3/4 ground ball movement drill with the ones then Tyson was involved in a mid group drill.

Doesn’t sound good. You think he’ll miss Earl?

Don’t know enough about these things, didn’t look good but maybe they can remediate these strains in three days?

This is not the time for us to run into training injuries except as all die-hards would expect, is just our MFCSS bad luck.

Hope Hibbo is ok. Even if not available for this week, we cannot afford an extended absence.

If its a quad strain hes not playing this week, and maybe not vs Adelaide.  If its bad strain/tear , Jack VIney will have some company in the sidelines.

Hopefully hes fine, our backline will be toast with both him and Lever not there.

Reckon they'll go with Tyson this week.  With Viney gone he has more opportunity to play the pure mid role.

Having said that, if he can't perform to a high standard with this chance then you begin to wonder how many more he has left.  This is a bonus opportunity for him so hopefully he takes it with both hands and can help propel us to finals in 6 weeks time.

OK, so that is 3 of our best out  - 7,8 and 14

SL, l hear you.

I suppose that compared to last year's injuries we have done ok.

Let's hope this time next year we have our best on the park in a push deep into the finals.

Until then, we put our faith in the 22 who are on the field this weekend. There is still a lot of talent that will be playing at Cardinia Park wearing red and blue.

The morning brisk and a little windy, with beautiful blue skies.

It was a much harder session then the other ones I've seen. Strength in the tackle and hard running.

In rehab was Mitch King, Dion Johnstone, Tim Smith and Jayden Hunt with light duties being Mitch Hannan and Neville Jetta. Neville and Hannan rejoined the main group.

After initial warm up,  group spilt into positional groups:

Fwds included Sam Wiedeman, Dean Kent, Harley Balic, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Charlie Spargo, Aaron vandenBerg. Backs included Cam Pederson, Pat Mckenna, Joel Smith. Mids included Christian Petracca, James Harmes, Dom Tyson, Oscar Baker, Bailey Fritsch.

They didn't stay long in these groups and moved to simulations fairly quickly. The first simulations had no talls. Again using lateral movements to find a corridor. They were intercepting the ball and filling space in front of the receiver. There was plenty of talk about positional structures. The talls were drilling contested marking (strength and holding ground) and low ball gathering.

They broke again into skill drills and back to simulations. Simulations seemed to include the squad for the weekend. Included were Bernie Vince, Joel Smith, Dom Tyson, Josh Wagner, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Neville Jetta but not Mitch Hannan. They were hard at it with medium strength tackling and contests. Plenty of talk and encouragement was heard.

Nathan Jones, Christian Petracca and Angus Brayshaw had 50 and 75 meter sprints under fitness coach who worked them hard.

Bernie Vince and Jordan Lewis drilled in kicking to leads after rolling away from mark.

I didn't notice the Michael Hibberd incident.

He grabbed his quad immediately as he kicked the ball and then limped slowly off, that indicates more than a strain to my amateur eyes, more like a tear. Maybe someone who has experienced similar could give an opinion.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom
