Just such a brilliant artesian at his craft, knows where to run, what daleks are around him, when to kick, when to handball, where the goals are...just a natural footballer, but with an uncanniness …….. I haven't seen since Robbie!

Pretty incredible that a 51 game 20 year old player (21 tomorrow I think) is equal no.1 in Champion Data player ratings as discussed by Glenn Luff on 3AW tonight.

#1, #3, and #17

pies, freo, tigers and north the only other teams with three representatives in top 30

these stats are completely meaningless of course; my tigers mate swears blind that grimes should be leading their b&f and that neck tatts is having a 'poor' year

the biggest issue with champ data rankings - which is essentially supercoach points - is that they are still dependent upon stats, i.e. possessions and scoring chains etc., meaning that role-players like grimes, or jetta, or alex pearce, or scott thompson are completely absent from consideration

These are the AFL Player rating stats, which are based on impact on the game, not fantasy points. It is as absurd to say that they are completely meaningless as to say that they are the only system that provides any insight into a player's value.

For what it's worth, this system is the one taken most seriously by AFL coaching panels. The players at the top end of this are all at the pointy end of the AFLCA votes. A good example is the contrast between Tom Mitchell's game and Clarry's on the weekend. Mitchell scored 159 supercoach points, but only 16 Player rating and didn't get a single coaches vote. Clarry got 136 supercoach points and 29 player rating points and 7 AFLCA votes (Max go the 10 votes with 131 and 26).

Garlett could be put to good measure. Someone made a great point on FB. Swap him and Oliver at the end of every quarter, get some run and spread through the midfield, an outside runner, then deliver to Oliver to work his magic.

King isn't wrong.

The improvements and form of Gus can be used to release Clarrie to the forward line, running into the 50m line or sometimes deeper, if games allow our inside mids to be varied, occasionally. This would overcome the need to roam Hogan so far upfield so that he and Jeffy/Spargo can work as a team with ANB/Hannan and TMac to back-up. At present, our attack is too readable and too often, interrupted.

On this Sunday feeling very very ordinary, some positivity for MFC and that's the Amazing Champion form of Clayton Oliver!

40 Possesions of exquisite touch , uncanny peripheral vision and football nous were highlights in an otherwise dismal night.

Well done Clarry Choo Choo!!

There was a point in the game last night where I thought this guy may end up being one of the greatest footballers I've ever seen play the game.

I thought that in his first season.

His hands are already better than anyone I have ever seen, Williams included.

Imagine this kid at 25

How about that handball that led to McDonald's third major?

I hope we're all enjoying this because there's still another 10-15 years of his career to look forward to.

Also, happy 21st Clarry!

AFL.com article has Dangerfield overtaking Martin as the Leagues best player over a two year period mainly due to Martin going backwards. But they go onto to say..

"Looking at this season only, the best midfielder in the AFL is young Melbourne bull Clayton Oliver. Not only does he rank second among players in his position for average contested possessions (16.9), he is also fourth for average pressure points (61.5)."

So is Oliver currently the best player in the comp? It would seem so.

Oliver is just 15 disposals away from becoming the first Melbourne player in the clubs history to have 700 disposals in a season.
