Because as has been pointed out by the world,ย the I50 count versus scores is massive out of balance.

Need some forward craft and experience.

Are you saying he had no forward defensive work? Gee we have plenty of that with the current forward crew. Garlett or Spargo at least provide some crumming ability up forward. They will stay down looking for the spilled ball and be in a position to lay a tackle on the rebounding opposition backman as opposed to our current flying squadron who have all leapt and spoiled each other and ended on lying on the ground while the opposition defenders run the ball out up the Members wing, time and time again!!!ย

For the Darwin game against Freo.

.

Rest: Gawn, Lewis, Petracca.

Omit: Petty, Hannan,

Ins from: Pederson, Vince, Frost, Stretch, Spargo, Garlett, Baker,

Ruck Pedo, Weide and Frost for the Darwin game;,,, giving Max a needed rest heading toward's August.

Darwin is not the game for bean pole rucks...ย ย  rest Maxy, so he is fresh for the following matches.

# this time last year, was the mistakes we made in selection re Max.ย ย  Bringing him back too soon, and playing him in Darwin.

What the hell does it matter? We can go through possible selections till we are blue inย the face itโ€™s either not going to be who we need or itโ€™s not going to make the other 22 players do their job.

Iโ€™ll revisit this in a few days but right now Iโ€™m way too peeved to even think about it.

Out:ย ย  Petty- Had a taste and knows what he might need at AFL level.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  ANB- Lacking consistency, no great games.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Hannan- No impact to the game.

In:ย ย ย ย ย  Keilty- Give him a try, big bodied and does the basics.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Baker- Smart player, runs well and wants it.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Spargo- Hard worker, crumber.

Move Joel from the backline put Keilty there. Spargo into the foward line for pressure acts and he can create space. Play Baker off the half back for the run and carry, creativity and to close down other speedsters.

No, Everygame is a must win. You do not rest the best ruckman in the game who is in form. No no no

I'd have no problem playing four or five at Casey next week for the purpose of avoiding Darwin. As you say every game is a must win and we need to look towards the remainder of the season.

If we cannot beat Freo with a few players out we are stuffed anyway which after today is probably right.

one has to wonder what can be done to make VFL matches more useful other than exercise.

The talent pool has got too thin and the games suffering

Lets see if Goodyโ€™s presser was blah blah. ย If it was, no change. ย If he is serious, then I can see several changes. ย Any player that either canโ€™t run two ways is out. ย Any player who is down on form is out (if there is a replacement at Casey). ย We have to structure up better.

Out: ย Petty, Hannan, Tyson, ANB

In: ย Frost, Baker, Spargo, Stretch

Spargo into the forward line, Baker to hold a wing, Stretch on the other (rotating in to the middle)

Hogan CHF, TMac FF. ย They dont go past the middle. ย

We have to hold our shape in the back 6 much better.

About 12 other players have to pull their fingers out

ANB wonโ€™t get dropped no matter how many times you type it

Iโ€™m looking forward to Baker coming in, playing a Petty type of game, and everyone here then stating it was a terribleย selection! ?

The congestion has caused this, not the new clubs.

The flood, zoning, etc, has caused very many young players to suffer and fall away... and also players like Garlett, ruckmen, etc.

Tyson will be handy inside in the Humid slippery conditions, while we rest Petracca from the same.ย  his pace won't be an issue playing as an inside Mid.

Petracca will be fresh for the game following Darwin, when we need him, as would Maxy.

Petracca isn't quick, and we need quick runners in Darwin.

ย

We'll be needing fresh players, for after the Darwin match, to help us settle.

Personally I think its got to do with the new clubs, kids playing other sports and the need for recruiters to recruit robots. There's very little personality left in the game. They're micro managed, can't imagine wanting to be in that environment. Talking to a young kid the other day who plays for the Northern Knights I think. He can't see the benefit of taking the next step, too much required of him, he says he's not alone . Now I'm sure there's plenty who are but have we killed half the fun?

I was of the opinion that Frost played reasonably well once included in 2017.

Until Darwin. Where he had a shocker - and faded out for the remainder of the year.ย

Not sure if was the conditions for his poor outing - but Iย do recall a number of crucial fumbles.ย

I agree that the game in its professional state has started going backwards as an appeal to the community.

I agree with you about the workloads and the robot factor.

ย

The game as I said a few years back, has lost its "fun".ย

Starting with the tosssser Ex players taking over the media box commentary.ย  and talking about the clubs themselves, and everything else,,,ย  accept calling the game as it stands...ย  the players names, whether a handball or kick (description), where to,,, who flies for the mark.

ย

The same happened yesterday with the CH-7 VFL call.ย  And the robot commentators just wanted to chat and fill every onair-space with the sounds of their voices_

... and to tell the viewers what the game was all about, instead of just calling the bloody players names, and the score, with the occasional exclamation of admiration for efforts over and above.

ย

ย

The AFL and the TV channels think they have to pump the game up every second,,, and overdo every bloody thing about it, and that in itself is a Major turnoff (think BT last year... wow wowee!).

ย

eX player commentaters think they have to talk down to the viewer in some condescending way, telling us how it is all the time; educating us on the finer points of the flood, & of the zones, and the 5 & 3's, or the 5 man defence, and the Elon Musk rocket flying over the Etiwho Stadium at precisely, 3rdQtr, 13th minute, and 14 seconds time.

I think the talent pool is there, but because of the reluctance to draft mature age players, and the way the AFL club's use the reserves as development for draftees, the talent doesn't want to play there.ย

The VFL isn't the next best group of players it is full of kids.ย There are better players in other leagues, who can't get a game at VFL because an 18 year bean pole first year draftee is keeping them out for "development" reasons.

The only way I can see this being fixed is to run a separate AFLย reserves comp, and increase the list sizes to 55+ (maybe a primary list of 35 for AFL, and a secondary list of 20 for reserves only).ย  When drafting, Club's should be able to place a player on either list (with release clauses after x years for draftees who aren't promoted).ย Club's should then be able to upgrade off their secondary list for long term injuries, and should have first dibs to automatically elevate any secondary list players before the draft.ย

ย

Basically, by having a smaller primary list you couldn't afford to have lots of undeveloped kids. By having a larger secondary list that was available for upgrade or exclusive draft, out would encourage club's to retain the best tier two talent in the system to fill gaps.ย

Or we play our Cadets before AFL games, with an age group of 16 - 21 Yrs?

Senior players who are dropped go back to the VFL.

Out - Petty, Hannan, Tyson,ย

IN - Vince, Spargo, Stretch

Vince has to come in for Petty. Freoย smaller forward line threat.

Spargo for Hannan and to be a genuine crummer deep I50 all night long baby! This should be Garletts position but he ainโ€™t up to it.

Stretch for Tyson. He deserves his chance and needs to be played consistently for the next few games.

Kent is a must selection when he is fit and firing. He makes our forward line much more threatening when he is playing.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Having convincingly defeated last yearโ€™s premier and decisively outplayed the runner-up with 8.2 in the final quarter, nothing epitomized the Melbourne Football Clubโ€™s performance more than its 1.12 final half, particularly the eight consecutive behinds in the last term, against a struggling St Kilda team in the midst of a dismal losing streak.ย Just when stability and consistency were anticipated within the Demon ranks, they delivered a quintessential performance marked by instability and ill-conceived decisions, with the most striking aspect being their inaccuracy in kicking for goal, which suggested a lack of preparation (instead of sleeping in their hotel in Alice, were they having a night on the turps) rather than a well-rested team. Letโ€™s face it - this kicking disease that makes them look like raw amateurs is becoming a millstone around the teamโ€™s neck.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and โ€ฆ it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterdayโ€™s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourneโ€™s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldnโ€™t get any worse. Well, it did. And whatโ€™s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasnโ€™t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyonโ€™s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourneโ€™s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourneโ€™s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterdayโ€™s 7 goals 21 behinds.ย
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. Iโ€™ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards?ย Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?ย
