what would be useful would be an independent web site that put up videos of contentious decisions and invited discussion on them

there are just too many bad or missed decisions that don't get adequately discussed (unless someone like clarko, eddie, terrible twins whinges) publicly and the afl are just happy to let them slip through the cracks

the media are also very remiss (know which side their bread is buttered) in discussing/assessing umpiring in a comprehensive way despite the fact that it is one of the fans major interest focuses/frustrations. they should be able to openly assess it weekly without it becoming a witch hunt

the spotlight needs to be put on the rules and umpiring, the fans are getting increasingly disillusioned at the inability of the afl to apply (or even define) the rules of the game both fairly and in a manner that fans and players alike can understand

might facebook be an idea? less work and well advertised?

site needs to be clearly non partisan i.e. all club fans

Peoples Voice vs Robotic Turds would seem appropriate!

Sure, that's even better. Except Facebook is evil, donchaknow.

Definitely agree re: non partisan.

Didn't notice the Umpires in Footscray's meritorious win until well into last quarter.

Well" lo and behold" up popped the inevitable, cats must win. But  "they" must have lost their clocks because there just wasn't time.

However they gave it a shot.....

A certain decorated player in tonight's game reverts at times to very unorthodox and quite dangerous tackling techniques. Has been noticed before.

In last nights game the slo mo replay on Buddy doesn't work apparently, because no where to be seen is the inter action with Rance in slowed down speed, funny that........

Umpires are genuinely defined as soft ex juniors, so in reality I can understand how they could be easily comprimised and intimidated by feral one sided crowds. After all your mum can't go everywhere with you!

My Mum pointed my Percy at the porcelain for many years

Does that mean I should have become an umpire ?

I think it works pretty well. Other than the Patriots getting the 50/50 calls go their way, the NFL is well officiated. Pass interference and defensive/offensive holding are probably the most subjective decisions, as most of the other fouls are either there or not (e.g. defensive offside, false start). It is like Rugby League in that the movement is not 360 degrees, plus all fouls except Defensive Pass Interference have set penalties, and the yard markers mean a 50 can't be 75 or 35 for example.

Surely for 50 metre penalties the umpire awarding the 50 could stand at the place of the infringement and the umpire in the next zone moves to the mark with the help of a laser marker generated from the first umpires' GPS tracker.

Fantastic idea re the 30-70 Metres .   So much guess work.

Anyone know if the club or anybody of substance has asked for clarification from the AFL umpiring officiondos on the Melksham one on one blocking free and resultant 50 meter penalty for a goal down the other end? Hmmm 12 point decision!

An absolute disgrace that one. And in a game with a margin under 2 goals further argument re the absolute robbery

....and i thought fatty and baldy were bad.....

Everything changed umpire wise once we got to 8-3. Collingwood continue to get kissed on the dick by the umps and they are 10-4. It's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$.

Im half cut and always half wrong but . Arrrrghhhhhhh!!!!

Yep Clint, i was trying to pinpoint when they thought enough was enough. I think the only way out is to continue the hate back at em..........

How the hell can the club not come out and say something?

I think we all should e-mail the club and ask what the heel they are going too do about this mess? Because if this keeps going on we will only be a bottom team and will not improve with this c#*! going on it is so bloody wrong.??

they have no feel for the game

really ruining my appreciation of the game, regardless if demons playing

differing interpretation, ump to ump, game to game, year to year

add more umpires and the game will be just one long whistle blast

50m penalty needs to be looked at and some common sense applied

Today’s game was about Umpires wanting to be the ‘centre’ of attention.

look at me ! Look at me! I’m in charge and I ‘m the boss . It’s all about me!

The big problem is (even with 4) , they umpire from BEHIND the play, 40 metres at least from the play. They guess and are Never wrong when challenged.

Goals kill teams especially when you watch a replay and see such dumb, inconsistent and poor decisions.

its the only game in the world where the whistle blows and no ones knows the outcome.

solution : Get umpires full time, professionals, maybe 25-30. Pay by performance. Stop umpiring from behind the play, stop guessing. Great umpiring is when you do not notice them.  Should we not review decisions that are made which result in shots on goal?  The run past 50 metre is an absolute shocker of a rule. Today the Dees were penalised with players chasing their opponents past the kicker at least twice.

So frustrated with inconsistency and often the frees not paid are the real killers.

Then again we are criticising those who do not accept criticism!

Wasn’t that the week that the head of Channel 7 came out and said publicly that it’s good for the sport (i.e. their ratings) when Collingwood are up and about?

51 free kicks yesterday. Unbelievably frustrating to watch.

The one Where the umpire paid advantage to us and St Kilda ended up goaling was my favourite.

It will be claimed that it was our skill error that resulted in the Saints' goal, but at the game you could see the utter confusion and uncertainty when the whistle blew - no confidence in any decision these days - and then whether we were allowed to play on or not. It was officiating chaos.

I’m with you, the last few weeks have been excruciating to watch..... isn’t it funny that it’s got worse since coaches had dinner at Gil’s house...

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
