Demonland Player of the Year - Round 12

Disappointing day, beaten up on the ball so all you can really do is go with some of the guys that actually applied themselves and put their body on the line, not all did.

6. Tmac

5. Viney

4. Oliver

3. Hibbo

2. Harmes (That bump and goal was exactly what was missing from others all day)

1. Frisch

6.  Tom McDonald  (our only major winner)

...space

5. Oliver

4. Gawn  (less fantastic today, but we’d have been thrashed without him)

3. Fritsch

2.  ...can’t think of anyone

1.  Jones

This is the hardest top 6 I had to do

6 T.MCDONALD

5 LEWIS

4 OLIVER

3 GAWN

2 VINEY

1 J.SMITH

After arriving home from the game last night I thought only 1 player deserved votes. But thinking about the game over night I reckon the 6 below at least tried.

As someone above pointed out Max beat Grundy, and my admiration for Fritsch grows every week.

6: Tom McDonald

5: Gawn

4: Fritsch

3: Oliver

2: Brayshaw

1: Lewis

6. T McDonald

5. Oliver

4. Jetta

3. Gawn

2. Fritsch

1. J Smith

I’m far from a Lewis hater but can’t understand how could be in the votes today.

Easy. He was (by far) our best player today, even though he had one errant handpass and one very poor kick in the final quarter.

Can someone explain how Jetta get in our best with 10 possessions and 2 tackles in a backline that let through 20 goals?

Tmac

Oliver

Jones

Fritsch

Viney

Lewis

The problem wasn't the defence, most of whom played quite well, but with the midfield and the coaching structure. Jetta nearly got votes from me.

6. Lewis

5. Oliver

4. T McDonald

3. Viney

2. Fritsch

1. Gawn (not his usual dominant self, but he made sure Grundy wasn't dominant either).

6 - TMac

5 - Oliver

4 - Gawn

3 - Fritsch

2 - Viney

1 - Joel Smith

Upon sober reflection I give the following votes:

6 TMac

5 Oliver

4 Gawn

3 Lewis

2 Brayshaw

1 Fritsch

6. T. Mac

5. Oliver

4. Gawn

3 Jetta (7 intercept possessions)

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
