It’s not every week that stats are on our side, so let’s go through some of the numbers to put this run of form into perspective.

- First time in club history that we have won three consecutive games by over 10 goals.

- First time in club history that we have won two consecutive games by over 15 goals.

- First time since 1993 that we have won two games in a season by over 15 goals.

- 18 consecutive quarters won. Club record. All-time AFL record is 21. Next week!!

- Highest ladder position since round 20, 2006.

- Best start to a season (first 10 rounds) since 1988 (8-2). Three times since we’ve gone 7-3 but with lesser percentage.

- Victory over Carlton was our eighth biggest ever and best win since 1993 v Richmond 121pts.

- Not only are we the top scoring side in 2018 but we are the only club to have scored over 140 points in a game... and have done it three times.

- Best five game streak since 1900. Here are the top five:

5W-0L 235% - R1-R5 1899
5W-0L 223% - R7-R11 1900
5W-0L 217% - R1-R5 1897*
5W-0L 207% - R6-R10 2018
5W-0L 206% - R20-SF 1987
5W-0L 205% - R8-R12 1963

... what else?

Is this our best ever against the Crows?

Not quite. 96 points in the false dawn of 2011.

When did did we last win five straight and when did we last win them by this percentage?

Is this our highest percentage since '64?

If NT want us to too keep playing up there they have to double or maybe triple the amount they are paying us or we end our relationship.

Ive changed my tune on NT this time of year during the afternoon is the only time to play up there.

I’ll be happy with 4 1 point quarter wins ?

Hogan has kicked 26 goals after 10 games. In 2014, our top goalkicker for the whole year kicked 20. Our next worst since the 1920s was 26 in 2008.

Note - I haven't named the players in 2014 and 2008 because it's not about them. They were the beneficiaries (victims?) of playing in poor teams.

Presently, this is our best start to a season since 1988. IF we get up against the Pies on QB it’ll make this our best start to a season (first 12 rounds) since... 1964.

Shattered we lost the first quarter today.

Yes Clint but we couldn't give two hoots about the consecutive winning quarter record.  Winning the game was all anybody cared about today.

And anyway, we are already 3 winning quarters into another attempt on that record. Let's add 4 to that against the filth.

MELB in the past 6 weeks have score 765 points and conceded 372 (205.6%)
205.6% is their BEST EVER percentage over any 6 game span.

(We are in the best form in the club’s history.)

Prev: 204.4% in 1897 R01-06, the first 6 games the club ever played.

It’s the best 6 game run in the AFL since Hawthorn in 2012.

What amazes me is that (1) someone bothered to check and that (2) this sort of analysis can now be done reasonably quickly. I await with interest someone who can tell me in how many of Nathan Jones 250 games he also played with someone with the surname McDonald/MacDonald.

Would be so Melbourne like to have the best patch of form in the history of the club and still miss the finals.  We could also miss the finals with the highest % ever of  a non finals team.

Last season we missed the finals by the smallest % gap ever, finding new ways to crush the spirit of the fans.

But missing out this season would be a whole new level of fail.

Apologies for the negativity, sometimes I still get flashbacks.

I think you mean his 248 H&A games

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
