Agree, 2 seems pretty short

I'd do the same personally if I was a key back still developing. He'll be worth a hell of a lot more in 2 years, trust me. Smart young man/good manager. He'll never leave the Dee's, I wouldn't worry about that.

Hit the nail on the head I reckon.

Think about how much more effective Oscar will be with the strength that another 2 pre-seasons will bring.

Great news from our list managers. Well done team, and thanks Oscar.

I wish I could hit a golf ball as far as he does. 290m. Gees.

Well done Oscar, great news. Allows you to concentrate on helping us towards a flag with no further distractions apart from the parade.

Well played Melbourne.

Give the young-uns a sniff of success and then low-ball them with the threat of Gold Coast hovering in the market.

Never in doubt. Well done O Mac...   gun full back in the making.

Who will he play on tomorrow night?

He should get Roughead, did a great job on him in Round 4 despite the fact Roughead kicked a couple on him in junk time. Was just about our only winner that day.

Another young gun signed up.

I don't know if it's been reported but it wouldn't surprise me if the length of the deal was the sticking point,  with us insisting on 3-4 years and Oscar looking for 1 or 2.

He will be in demand in a couple of years and possibly commanding big dollars; we also just signed Lever on big dollars (reportedly ~$750k) so I don't blame Oscar for wanting to test the water.

nearly right I suspect ... more likely a stand off over dollars and the compromise being sign up now for two years at $X and then go for $X plus after two years.

Omac and frosty are going to kill it down back for even longer now! This duo is seriously underated, so glad omac has been given 2 more years

Are we seeing the end of Big backmen and Big forwards, with the style of play to speed and agility outweighing strength and marking??

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
