Agreed. An all round crap season thus far.

My friends and I who all barrack for different teams have a footy chat group going. It’s been going for a good 4 years now. And gees everyone is disappointed in this season so far, even those who support teams that are doing relatively well. It’s like tumbleweeds in the chat and tumbleweeds on game day. Total snooze fest.

yeah, a facebook group i am part of has been saying the same - there's richmond at one end, carlton and brisbane at the other, and then a whole lot of ordinary in between

It may have something to do with the current trend in footy.  In previous years teams implemented a flood, then a cluster, then a press, then a stoppage based gameplan.  The last two years have seen the Bulldogs and Tigers win premierships on the back of frantic pressure and frenetic ball movement.  Teams are trying to either imitate or implement this ideology.  With this leap in pressure, the skills have gone to hell.

Envy is of course a deadly sin but you just have to chuckle at the luck of Richmond..

Record members and revenue and this week they hit Collingwood on an absolute upbeat crowd wise. They are expecting 80k plus.

Good luck to em but hell it would be nice if it were us. :)

Well, Richmond have beaten us, Brisbane, Carlton and Hawks. All previous season finals no shows. They may be premiers and top of the ladder but a big call saying they are significanty better than their closest rivals. Last season the Bulldogs were in a similar position and 4/1 after five rounds, still re-living their premiership glory and receiving copious platitudes. Richmond are hot ATM but things can change quickly.

At docklands... crowd better than I expected. Maybe 17k.

Hard to work out if either team is any good but port seems to be a notch above North.

Every time brown goes near the ball the crowd scream for a free kick.

Jack W not starring so far. Had a relatively easy set shot in the first quarter and missed.

Gray (46) can certainly play. 3 goals so far

Cats V Geelong turning into a ripper game. 10 mins to go and Sydney are back in front after trailing by about 5 goals.

Boy... this is a cold stadium when the roof is shut and the crowd is low.

Port well on top. North just too sloppy.

On a more general note this game style is no fun to watch as a neutral. Very few good plays. It's just about who Bullock's better.

Game style does nothing for a player like Watts.

1 goal 1 from 9 disposals, 3 marks and 3 tackles currently

A standard Watts ‘decoy’ game

Sinclair has been huge.

You look at Sydney's leadership and then ours and that's why we are where we are. Struggling.

Did you check out their coaching staff as well?

Wow what a great win by the swans with no Buddy or Hannebery. That would make the cats fans down there a tad angry. You would think on your home ground and  with those 2 out you would win. Especially with a 24 point 3/4 time lead.

as for Nth well how do you come out and play last week and thrash the hawks but can't back it up against Port. Back to reality Nth.

Port where was this effort a few weeks ago when you played the scum?

Both Scott brothers have not had a good day today.

Impressive coaching staff, but we have assembled a reasonable team too. I'm more concerned by the on field, than the off field. We simply have no leadership on the field.

I'll be interested to see how we go with Tom McDonald in the side.

The GWS and BL game is awful to watch.

You can't complain about the north spirit.

8 goals down but 3 quick ones to the kangas

They kicked  a few goals when the game was well and truly over.

Not sure that qualifies as spirit DJ, they were flogged.

It was intended as a subtle reminder/comparison of a team that did the opposite two weeks in a  row. :)

Carlton must pay the AFL under the table to get Friday night games.

slightly off topic but Melbourne Victory had the semi final sewn up...2-1... and Sydney scored a goal with 15 seconds to go.

Now off to extra time for 30 minutes

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
