I have a bad feeling that Viney;s injury will continue to blow out from 4-6 to 12-14 weeks

If Viney is announced as a 12-14 week lay off, I will go on a 12- 14 week scotch whiskey drinking binge. I will need to get a couple more bottles in, I only have six un opened ones at the moment. Looks like it will be Johnnie Walker now

which 3 players mate?

Honestly can’t remember 2 of them, the other was Garlett.

Maybe Max was frustrated and decided to give a bit of a spray to the nearest players and they themselves were disappointed with their efforts they didn’t want to face him.

FMD, only Demonland could turn a picture containing a blurry Max Gawn in the background into a near full team revolt.

What's next? Nate Jones wants out to the Hawks?

It's fairly clear that Jones has already left based on his absence from that picture.

Maybe he was more concerned about tapping it away from Mitchell?

Looked like he was doing exactly that. Shame not one of our lot could figure that out...or that the box might inform them at say 1/4 1/2 or 3/4 time

Much cleverer to keep it a secret .. shhhh ;)

Anyone heading out for the session this morning?

Re Max and hot outs: as I recall in his AA year, Jamar won a squillion hit ours but only a small handful resulted in clearances.

This is a huge part of the game we need to urgently learn / formulate a plan to use to our advantage.  It requires teamwork in the mids and wings.

What I don’t understand is why in the games that Gawn is so dominant in have a signal that the team knows and prepares for and get Max to punch the ball 30-40m clear and have us run into it. Not every bounce but a couple of times a game. I think it was White did that well when he was at the top of his games for us. Just something different and get it out of the centre for us. Thoughts?

I got down to training this morning for an hour. It was a beautiful morning for it, if a little dewey which caused some handling issues. I spoke to Brendan McCartney briefly and he said the mantra this week was ‘Get in and bang some bodies’. Ben Matthews took the session. Here are some observations:

- A few of the Casey lads were running when I got there. They play tomorrow so it was only the senior squad that was training today.

-T-Mac did the majority of the session with the main group. The big fella looked fantastic and can’t get be too far away.

-Jack Viney is moving well. Straight line sprints, lateral movement stuff, kicking in boots over distance.

-Forgotten man Aaron vandenBerg was moving as well as I have seen him for a long time. He can’t be too far away from joining the main group either.

-Sam Frost was training with the re-hab group. I’m not too sure why.

-Jordy Lewis’ hand was heavily bandaged. He was the chief mover of the witches hat.

-Hunt, Stretch, Tyson, Tim Smith and Weideman all trained today with last week’s team. There was no Bugg so I assume he has been dropped and will play tomorrow? I assume we’ll have two or three carry over players who will not play tomorrow and will be emergencies for the senior team.

-No Balic, Hannan, Pedo or Maynard.

-It was a spirited session. The boys looked keen for Tuesday.

Tim Smith is in then?   I called it, and was the only one.  Yes I am bragging.

If both he and Weid come in, this would likely mean Hogan plays in the midfield all game.

Not yet mate. If you count Frosty there were 24-25 on the track. A few will be left out of that squad.

Frost will probably not be in the squad, did whole session in rehab

Bugg trained with Casey so is a definite out, Tyson did whole session so will be one in

Observation, twice Chaplin reprimanded Jayden Hunt for not taking the simple option when doing a defence rebounding drill, could be one of the reasons he was dropped

I wonder if this might be the perfect week to bring Sam in. A week we are (supposedly) really focusing on the physical stuff. One if the knocks on him has been that he doesn't impact the contest as a big bloke, which is primarily a mental issue. Perhaps having the whole team in such a physical mindset, with a point to prove, might make all the difference.

I suppose the other side of the coin is that, if he doesn't impact, it will be very obvious, given the stage and opponent and following last week everyone will be watching for a response.

I don't know where things broke down but so many of Gawn's taps went to spaces where there were no Melbourne players, he may have "won" the ruck duels but our ball winners were nowhere near it.

I had a vague feeling that Oliver had to climb over the Grandstand, go through the Members Entrance, and run down the race on to the ground from the other side, but i might be exaggerating a bit..........

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
