I seriously doubt there are any big offers for Brayshaw floating around, no doubt his injury problems have not helped but honestly at senior level he looks slow and does not impact the game.

So do I od but for different reasons.

In the last trade period clubs watched us cave in on both the Lever and Watts deals where we gave up to much for Lever and didn't get enough for Watts.

Don't wish to revisit the pros and cons of those deals.  Suffice to say the perception would be that mfc will blink first so clubs reckon they can get overs for their players and get ours on the cheap.

Freo's big brother will swoop on Hogan.  West Coast will be looking at him to replace Kennedy, they will want him at Melb for another 2 years then say thanks very much for developing him welcome back to WA.  The only way we are keeping Hogan is by playing finals and not just a side that makes finals but a side that can contend in finals.  There is nothing more important to our club than breaking our finals draught

Interesting and do not disagree with the premise. Would hope management are doing the analysis on the pros and cons of trading him now and going for Tom Lynch.

Would love Hogan to stay but the will he or wont he go scenario is becoming tiresome and distracting.

Imagine if the salary cap were just a base and then a bonus pool. Would make it so much easier to reward the right players for the right performance.

For every Franklin deal there is also the Tippet and Tom Boyd deal.

Fits my point LH there are no big offers out there for Brayshaw and lets be honest right now who would pay big money for an average player. the shine of a first  round pick has faded long ago.

you're right OD but he is better than our revolving fringe set so he will be picked up/re signed on reasonable coin. He won't move for money I suspect. It will be family reasons and lifestyle.

The plus for us is that at 22 he may be ready to distance himself a little from mum and Dad as most kids do.

I suspect he is at his lowest value now and his manager is saying ... get some senior games .. perform and watch the money flow. Can't blame him. The kid deserves some good luck.

Must admit I chuckle at the Weid to Collingwod stories but MFCSS could have me believing anything.

Should be a good game at Punt Road this Sunday afternoon... nice weather

Disagree, it would be for more opportunity or a fresh start and aren't his parents still living in Melbourne?

For some of us it does take just a little while to move my friend....

I'm a bit confused. You said the plus for us, so you want to get rid of him?

If we could get a first round pick then tomorrow.

But that wont happen and I am still delusional enough to think he will come good and live up to his first round pick status.

You can have that perspective but I see it differently. Melbourne knows what they want and they are pragmatic about getting it. You don't get points for not doing deals and being obstinate like Collingwood and Essendon used to be.

You have a small window to get deals done and limited ammunition in terms of picks and trades. You don't deal in a vacuum. there are a myriad of factors at play.

Watts was not wanted by us or by anyone other than Port. Fact. Get the deal done and move on.

As for Lever, the same applied. a ready made AA type young gun player to Melbourne. When was the last time that happened? I mean really. Who was the last young gun to want to come to Melbourne? I'll wait.....

All true but I am beginning to think we paid way overs for him, right now he is at best an average HB flanker we have plenty of those at Casy for a quarter of the price. Will need a very good second half of the year or DJ's spot could be filled.

I suspect the editorial meeting at Fox Footy questioned which would be a better selling story: One Brayshaw moving west or a different one moving east and decided to go with the former. "Keeping an eye" on someone is no more than what every club should be doing with every player in the competition. If that's all Fremantle is doing with Angus Brayshaw, it's no more or no less than what the other 16 other clubs are probably doing.

Sure OD. Not commenting on that, merely that the poster i was referring to suggested we fold too quickly in negotiations. What Lever has done since is of course still up for debate..

Hogan is the more interesting case. Does his first year with us count as a years service? The year where he was only allowed to play VFL?

The thought of losing both Brayshaw and Hogan after the loss we just had is too much for me. I think i would give up following AFL

As far as I remember, yes that first year in the VFL does count. Similar for GC/GWS 17yos who couldn't play but we're contracted to the club.

Tiresome and distracting for who? You?

Seriously people, one poor game and the rain clouds don't stop rolling in.

It is actually four  poor games in the last six  Dr and only one of them was against a team that figured in last years finals.

the tend has been there ever week.

I don't think our first 3 games were "poor" so we'll have to agree to disagree.

We had quarters where the other team played all over us the difference is IMO that the Hawks did not let us back in.

But it is all only opinion and as you say we have different views on that. Enjoy today week.

Go dees.

After eight games,( ie twice to date) we might need someone who isn't MFCSS diseased, and a lid throw away type, with an elastic returnable capability, type persona.......

Except Thompson was significantly better

He played regularly in his last season with before breaking his arm, I seem to believe

Brayshaw has more in common with Toumpas at this stage

FWIW, I rate Brayshaw now, similar to the way I rated Thompson before he left.

FWIW2, Roos rates him highly as stated OTC

After last weekend (and the past 6games) I would go the garage sale on the damn lot..time to start again.. I want rebuild.. it’s time

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
