Like it or not - the MFC has a soft tag and has had it a long long time - supporters and team. The only way to fix it is win.

Like that the MFC are dominating the media cycle today, and if the women win, our media momentum will continue to grow. 

If we knock off the Cats Sunday week then murmurs of us us being a contender will start to flower. 

The camp story will only galvanise the team to ensure and prove they are mentally strong.

As we build momentum our exuberance and talent will be on display, and the nit-picking doubters in the media and beyond will be silenced.

Leaving aside the timing, the article is mostly predictable guff.  What riles me is the way she starts by saying Goodwin 'scoffed at  suggestions he'd offered his resignation' and then says that's 'implausible'.   The 'suggestions' were unsourced and there was no hint of that when the issue first arose as far as I recall, so why raise it except to create some excitement in the gutter.

It read to me like saying ' Gil scoffed at suggestions he had sold the AFL and his soul to the devil' followed by how 'implausible' that would be.   Oh, wait....

It's an off week.  Just digging the barrel

I'm afraid even winning won't matter unless we make it deep into a finals campaign UH.  Along with the Aints we are the AFL's (inc. fans & media) easiest whipping boy.

I don't know why everyone's upset about what the media thinks about us.

It's simple......The proof of the pudding is in the eating.   We will do our best...whether it's good enough or not will show at the end of the year.

On a different note -

I found it amusing that the camp is (ironically) called 'I Don't Quit' (IDQ). 

I just hope we learnt the 'I Don't Quit' lesson some other way in the preseason so we play 120 minutes each week.  Too many players switch off for too long during games and leave too much work to too few.  Blink and the quarter and often the game is gone.

Only time will tell if we have have embraced the 'IDQ' mindset.

The teams are now made up of one or two Aussies, then KIwis, Islanders, Englishmen, Union converts, reformed bad boys etc

I am still thankful for Caro for how hard she went at Hird and Essendon during the ASADA/WADA saga. She slaughtered them with the truth, which was the counterweight needed for the sickening lovefest the druggos were getting from the Herald Sun.

A few years ago The Melbourne Storm were stripped of all points and 2 Premierships , because Of Brian Waldron. 

They played the season for zero points and would have still qualified for finals. 

Rugby League is a tough game, whether you think the comp is dying or not. 

To question the opinions of Craig Bellamy, you can do that at your own peril. 

The guy is a genius coach, and for him to stay at The Storm for so long, must kill so many of the hierachy in Sydney.

I used to watch him when he played for the Raiders SWYL, we talk about AFL changing, Rugby League is unrecognizable from 20 years ago, there are no ball players anymore

Bellamy coaches his players to lay all over the opposition in defence and push the envelope with the referees, they frustrate and tire the opposition then strike

Yes it is successful, but boring to watch, they are one reason I stopped watching the game

I don’t find the Storm boring to watch at all, i am proud of them as a club and i am not a Rugby person at all. 

But that club did not flinch when Gallop threw everything at them, if the MFC were stripped of points during a season, the whole playing group would collapse and splinter. 

Bellamy kept the boys together and focused

We should be learning from them, not rejecting their methods

This is the big point. I was debating my sister about Caro today.  

She was saying Caro gives all women in football a bad name. My argument was that it's not her gender that's the issue, it's her agenda.

She clearly has a bias and so whatever good investigative journalism she does undertake at other clubs, this work should be neutered when put beside her lack of perspective on her own club.

Bad journalism IMO.

This camp fiasco is more than a passing pre-season story.  It will define our year.  An average/poor year in the past was invariably blamed on luck; psychology; curses etc....and any other convenient get-out that a simpleton can muster.

There will only be one reason we fail this year.  The camp fiasco primarily, an also the underlying issues (no medical input into boot camp 1; communication between U24's (bar Viney) and the 'leadership'/coaching group; the willingness to undermine Goodwin at the expense of getting a cuddle from the PA) underpinning the fallout.

 

The camp fiasco is an indictment on most at the club.  Its the urine infested mattress that we [censored] in, and we will have to sleep in.  Don't shoot the messenger you bozos.

It's a good sound article and the truth is we were soft, the players did quit as they did against Coll,  when it mattered  most they were soft and as you train so you play !! You can ignore what happened or you can face and address it - hopefully everyone learned from this especially the "soft " players !!

So is AFL

Don't know much about you Saty and not having a go... But AFL isn't healthy in Regional Vic - lots of smaller clubs being wound up and amalgamated

investigates the facts, or asks question she wants the right answer from. I think there is a difference. she knows what sells and works towards that.

 

The fact she looks above most journs because she actually does something doesn't make her a legit investigative journo.

Article is well written and a bit close to home so as fans we get defensive. This has the potential to drag on and be a downer on our year, it won't if we win early, set up a finals spot and gofrom there.

I had the displeasure of lisetening to a few local footy club friends last week who had a lot of inside word on this one, it was hard to defend given what they shared. I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall when Bellamy and Goodwin talked after it blew up and was cancelled, I head that conversation was one for the ages and defining in Bellamys view of where to next.

bellamy is perhaps the greatest coach in australian sport in the past twenty years, if we can learn anything from him we should. Say what you like about the NRL or Storm, they are simply amazing team. Every single year I head to Storm games knowing we will likely win....again.

as we head into the Cats game I'm keen to win and move past this as a relevant topic, there is no positives in this coming up again and again.

Leigh Matthews is the greatest coach in Australian sport followed by Al Clarkson, as I said my opinion, Bellamy has had nothing to coach against and coaches a negative game
