Completely agree WTM. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, Phuckinara has been riding the 2004 coattails for way too long. Pelchen did it too, and like Pelchen, he will eventually drift into irrelevance (can't come quick enough).ย

Even Pretenderghast picked out Gawn, which goes to show, it is just as much, if not more about developing that raw talent once they are in the door, than it is identifying it. Who knows how Gawn would have turned out if not for Paul Roos & Co.

ย

I don't know anything about any of the potential draftees this year but I know that as evidenced by the trading of Watts and Hogan we want players who are committed to being the best they can be and are utterly competitive.

I'd be interested to know from those underage watches who fits these categories around our picks.ย

Pretty sure Buckenara's columns are ghost written. Yes, he has no idea, but columns are probably 'written' by the HS intern!

It was more to do with his draft rankings.ย

He had Kieran Collins ranked at 3 in 2015.

Yes not sure Buckenara has been to Specsavers!!

Chayce Jones at 10 (too low),ย Luke Valente at 28 (too high) and Ely Smith at 31 (way too high) were surprising.ย

Bedford at 34 would be too early for a nomination. Heโ€™s fast and skilled but needs 2+ years development. ย

I just donโ€™t see it with Valente. I think heโ€™s too slow to be an effective AFL player. A bloke like Jordan Lewis might get by at that speed now, but he hasnโ€™t always been that slow.

Valente is the same speed as Salem, Brayshaw & Harmes. ย Not a jet but not slow. ย Definitely top 20 rated for me. His efficiency in disposal doesย remind me of Salem. ย ย

No chance, heโ€™s a lot slower than those named & doesnโ€™t have enough of the other attributes to compensate.

Iโ€™ll put it this way - he may show leadership skills, but heโ€™s more like a poor manโ€™s Luke Dunstan. Would you recruit Luke Dunstan to MFC? I wouldnโ€™t.

From limited viewing I agree. Looks like the kind of player who usually drifts out to 30+, gets talked up in the media due to leadership and good performance. That said, it's often a fine line between the Jack Graham and Worpel types and the Mathieson/Dunstan types who aren't quick or skilled enough.

Reminds me. Time for my first phantom draft and itโ€™s no surprise that a few South Australians figure very highly.ย

From the POV of the Dees, we are unlikely participants in the top 10 of the draft which is fine by me since we have Jake Lever instead.

However, that said, this yearโ€™s batch of players coming into the system is looking very strong.

My top 10:-

1. Izak Rankine โ€“ West Adelaide (SA)
2. Jack Lukosius - Woodville West-Torrens (SA)
3. Max King โ€“ Sandringham Dragons
4. Connor Rozee โ€“ North Adelaide (SA)
5. Ben King โ€“ Sandringham Dragons
6. Sam Walsh โ€“ Geelong Falconsย
7. Ian Hill โ€“ Perth (WA)
8. Jye Caldwell โ€“ Bendigo Pioneers
9. Jack Bytel โ€“ Calder Cannons
10. Matt Green โ€“ Sporties Spitfires (NT)

Take a bow Chelly - picked the first six drafted in January (although not necessarily in the correct order).

Thanks for the kudos Andy - I stand by my original order. Gold Coast have a bonanza with Rankine and Lukosius.

I don't know what happened to Matt Green.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwinโ€™s summer of love.ย Manyย issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

Weโ€™re back! That was fun. The Mighty Deesโ€™ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commandingย 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
