Me too I simply don't have the $300 to splash on a long odds bet.

If by a miracle we should make a GF in the next few years and I cannot get a ticket I will like tens of thousands of others have to watch it from the lounge room.

There was a great movie called the Wrong Box. It is about a group of parents in 19th century England who each contribute 0ne thousand ponds to a fund  (the tontine) which is to be paid to the last of the children to die. Of course by that time it is worth a literal fortune.

Perhaps we could all contribute to such a fund thus giving the survivor a chance to attend our next GF. With my MFCSS firmly on perhaps we should enter any newborns as they might stand a chance !!

OD, these days I look at everything in terms of the cost of a cup of coffee. The GF Guarantee equates to about one and a half cups per week, or in my case having my son’s to cover as well, three cups. Weird I know, but somehow it helps me deal with the cost ?

Good luck hardtack I hope you get to use it soon.

Sounds like a good idea DJ but I see that as me throwing money because majority will easily out live me.

We signed on, again. No worries. I'd like us to get at least 1/4 of the free kicks that the Crows got from the umpires in front of goal at Adelaide Oval during 2017! We would win the flag, regardless of how well the Tigers might play on the day.

Why pay for a premium membership? Level 2 security at the MCG is an absolute farce.

I'm a long time MFC member and I don't sign the misses up. I used to buy her a guest pass for level 2 ($25 + GA ticket), but have stopped due to the fact we can both waltz in on my membership. If she has to use the toilet or go for food/beer, she just takes my card.

Email I received yesterday:

Thank you for signing up again as a member in 2018, it's certainly going to be an exciting year at the club.

Exciting by the fact I'm going to gain mild depression leading into x-mas again. Cant wait Demons, cant wait.

Funny I got the same email and thought so what has changed.

When was the last time you got an email from the club saying We are going to drop down the ladder next year glad you will be alone for the ride?

Oh well I guess they have to be positive.

We all should have gotten condolence cards from the club over the last 11 years.

"We're so sorry, but could you please sign up again next year"

They would have got  a big discount for quantity Js5. they could have been used them for most of the last 53 years.

I just wish there was a bit more choice for interstate memberships. I try to get down to Melbourne every round 1 and a few other games, but the armchair membership gives you very limited seats, with no bar access in some cases.

Getta bigger Eskie !

I signed up for the upgrade to finals tickets. $600 for a membership is super pricey especially as I’m moving house in the next week. But to me having the peace of mind that if we make it, I’ll be there, is worth it.

I missed out in 2000 and although it was an awful game I still wish I was there.

It certainly is an extreme expense and one that my partner just can’t get his head around, but if like me, you go to all games in Victoria and will be going to all/every final, it ends up being decent value for money.

Regardless tho, as long as people buy the membership that best suits their financial position, that’s all that matters. Any membership helps the club!

but.... as previously stated you can no longer buy a ga home or home and away plus a reserved seat (open air or undercover). You are now forced to buy a "package" which includes the grand final guarantee. So (for many) you cannot buy the combination that might "suit your financial position"

Sadly I have to report Jaded that you have gone off a year early.

No chance of a GF in 2018 but 2019 might just be the year.

And watch it get worse dc when we start actually playing finals.

The AFL is now very much a supply and demand environment.

If you have enough folding green you can get anything you want.

However if your finances are more at the modest end then there is the TV forget about being at the G on GF day.

if we get in a gf, od, i'll probably join the unwashed at aami stadium and watch the big screens. at least i'd get to soak up some atmosphere with fellow die-hards rather than the entitled corporate swill at the $g$ :P a win will still mean as much to me whether there or not.

I will save  you a seat next to me dc. Too rich for me these days.

And I wont tell anyone we were not at the G if you don't.

OD 2018 will be our premiership year!

As [censored] off as I was at the end of the 2017 season. I unfollowed all melbourne social media content and gave it away.

Two weeks ago was bored watched about an hrs worth of Jones Hogan & Petracca highlights, now I’m keen again.

As far as I’m concerned Petracca is the next Danger in waiting!

Been a member since 2011 (off my own back not dads)  next year makes it 8 in a row & 3 as red leg. I sat through 2012-14..

I’M NOT JUMPING OFF NOW!!!

Hmm that is a big call MGDW.

Not sure I share your enthusiasm, he will need a lot more consistence in 2018 and beyond as just the first step.

Making good progress:  23,162.

Up on comparable date in 2016 but just a few hundred behind 2017.

Wondering if @george_on_the_outermight update and pin the 'Annual Membership Tally' thread?

Jesus Christ this thread is depressing. Smell the roses boys and girls, the flag is ours for the taking next year :)

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
