Both Goodwin and Roos have tried that at various times but he's always been a media favourite and he's either played too well or too inconsistently to be a traditional role player.

Having a game based on skills isn't really suited to just being a standard role player. If he routinely was the back up ruck and made some contests forward or if he was a hard running half forward every week then it would be easily to control the narrative about him. Unfortunately he's floated around different roles depending on the season/week/game and not got that continuity. A fresh start in a defined role makes that easily to control.

We recruited Jack to be the next Nick Riewoldt. I'll guarantee had he worked as hard on and off the field as Nick he'd be our number 1 forward while we wait for Hogan to fulfill his potential. The fact he's a lazy 3rd forward sums up exactly why we're moving him on for peanuts. Sure he's a good guy and sure most of us like him but I want a flag not a nice 3rd tall to help us finish 2nd

Jack was never, ever going to be a Nick Riewoldt....fantasy land

NR is just a freak

And that’s why you don’t and should not post. It was about inconsistency being accepted. If we dismissed players for inconsistency, then a lot more players would be traded.

It was about the way it has been handled. Most agree it is very poor.  Watts has been dismissed and whilst I don’t agree with his latest post, it was probably due to frustration and hard to argue with that.

I don’t agree with the way MFC have managed departures like Woewodin, Spalding, Green & James McDonald. All loyal until they were discarded like yesterday’s newspaper.

You must be some negotiator mate - anyone who disagrees with you is told to sit down and shut up. Nice.

You're clearly running with your own narrative on this, aligning it with previous failures of the club, and I doubt I could convince you of anything otherwise, so good luck finding peace with the decision. I know I have very quickly.

We have put Jack on the table and to those who have asked why, been upfront that for a senior player of his experience, his inconsistency is unacceptable. How this equates to dragging him through the mud or 'dismissing' him, I have no idea.

And yes, in the recent past we have kept inconsistent senior players, and have not used their inconsistency as a catalyst or excuse to trade. That recent past has also been extremely unsuccessful. I don't think that's a coincidence so I for one am pleased the club is taking a harsher stance.

But hey, my opinion isnt as valid as yours is it?

He was a 196cm number 1 draft pick. Are you saying he as recruited as a third tall

Such a sad video posted of a young fan who loves Jack Watts asking him to stay and that he wear number 4. He thinks Jack is the best kick in the team. Jack's reply is that MFC don't value kicking and that the lad may need a new jumper next year, it clearly isn't in jacks hands and he is being pushed. I know at clinics lots of kids wear number 1, 11 and 4 so I can picyure lots of sad kids

This is why the 2008-2014 period is irrelevant in terms of Jacks performance.

No one at the club blossomed in that period, maybe a handful, geez I can't even name them.

Supposedly our "brand" is more attractive on field recently, membership numbers have risen to a record level and it's a fact that Jack is popular among the newer members of the MFC, especially the kids.

My wife and kids have only been on the scene the last couple of years as members.

They love the 2015-17 version of Watts and they can't understand for the life of them why he will be playing in different colours next year and I'm sure other MFC families feel the same.

The trade Watts camp on here have made some well thought out comments to argue their case of why a club is bigger than the individual and those views are respected.

Some of them though or maybe one have made their dislike for Watts abundantly clear and it sounds almost personal.

He has been part of the Red and Blue family for the best part of a decade and it's understandable that people will be somewhat saddened when he changes colours.

I'm pretty sure (i cbf looking up the articles from his drsft year but from my fleeting memory im pretty sure the hun and age both did articles. The huns article was written by Grant Thomas I'm pretty sure ) but there is no doubt those comparisons were made between NR and JW, fact.

Really, you think this? And the 5 posters so far that liked the above?

You think he was 'application' away from being Nick Riewoldt?

You think he was 'giving a [censored]' away from being a great of the game?

I thought this thinking died years ago, and we all came to the conclusion that he was never able to reach those heights because he is not that type of player.

Would you say that Ben Kennedy is 'application' and 'commitment' away from being Jack Viney?

The very fact that some fans think this - floors me. He was never going to be the reincarnation of Nick Riewoldt, and to judge him on not getting there and blaming a lack of application and commitment is delusional and one of the many reasons we this is so personal to so many.

You were promised Nick Riewoldt and no-one ever explained to you it was never going to happen, and no-one took the blame but Jack.

We disagree

at the end of the day, a number 1 draft pick is selected to drive direction of your club, be a household name and be the face of the club. definitely botched it but it wasnt a strong draft.

Not so fast, keyboard boy....

NR was playing for a Saints' team that was quite successful in his early tenure there, so his development would have been going along nicely

Compare that to the basket case that JW found himself in

What happened the following year in the draft?

And this is what happened. Except Jack never got off his P's and hasn't adjusted his Sat Nav after the club made a wrong turn towards Fitzroy.

The intention to drive yourself to be the absolute best you can be has little to do with those around you. It comes from within. Jack doesn't have it.

NR was a champion because he was the fittest bloke out there and he gave everything to his teammates, unfortunately Jack did not. Talent is one thing, workrate is another .

That's very true JR. And the club put him front and centre as our Messiah when he clearly wasn't ready for it. The disaster that was that first Collingwood match still sticks with me.

I just skipped 100 pages did I miss anything ?
