Melbourne Storm .. Success

Interesting article with  a slightly different take on the reasons for success of  the  Melbourne Storm.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-09-01/hinds:-the-secret-to-melbourne-storms-consistent-success/8860566

The references to  pre-season is particularly interesting

Makes  one wonder how it could be applied  to AFL. Perhaps a  pre  pre season for MFC hopefuls

And now St George miss the finals in almost identical fashion to how we missed out.

Incredible!

Played a team that was a lost cause all year and voila....

On the other hand the Cowboys would have been doing what we were doing last Sunday night and all smiles for them now.:(

Canterbury Bulldogs = Collingwood

But are these teams outside of the 8 much worse than those just inside the 8 (in both codes)?

So many of the games this season have been decided 'on the day'  The form lines were difficult to read all season.

It is amazing that we share the same facilities as these ultra professionals....

Great point Macca!

The coaches of the teams above were subjected to scrutiny more so than any other coach in their respective sports also.

In one significant way, however, the 2017 version of the Storm has already honoured a tradition of excellence.

This is where we need to get to.

Meanwhile, the once 'mighty' Blues lose 16 games and no one bats an eyelid. Like the Pies, they'll probably remain mediocre too.  Here's hoping.

And how about those  2 ridiculously subsidised Queensland teams?  Money for jam.

Until Parramatta beat them on Saturday

Storm / Demons

So close....yet so far

Slightly hijacking this thread but internet issues overseas make it hard to start another.

I cannot help but think that the Socceroos against Thailand is the same as us V Collingwood.

Permutations are so similar.

The article below even has that wonderful comment we have heard so many times:

If we can't beat Thailand we don't deserve to be in the World Cup

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/sep/04/milovan-rajevac-led-thailand-a-chance-to-break-socceroo-hearts-again

For the round ball afficianados who are the socceroo's "Watts and Tyson". Is Cahill their pedo?

almost going to script.

will japan do an adelaide and lose to saudi arabia?

Like MFC the socceroos look gone on percentage after a less than convincing win over Thailand

I spent more time watching The Storm than this Syd v Ess match. It was a ripper and they had to earn the win.

Well done lads, another premiership on its way!

What a club they are, even with Brian Waldron trying to kill them

Great onfield success but have not really developed a following in Melbourne....almost no media coverage

Understandable perhaps but a lesson for the AFL

interesting article here on the role of ANZ Stadium in NRL.......seems that no one likes it

You weren't the only one. The 2 NRL finals have been a better advertisement for their game than all the AFL finals so far. Both NRL games were a great contest played at a high level. Same can't be said of any of the AFL finals. The Crows/GWS and Sydney/Essendon games were a snoozefest. Tigers played at a high level and Cats were insipid.

You are kidding? By NRL standards their crowd numbers are impressive, and they get far more media in Melbourne than the Swans and Giants get in Sydney.

Storm get a solid look in Melbourne.

18k average...

ok it is good by comparison to Sydney which has how many teams?

18k in a city of 4 plus million after almost 30 years doesn't smack of success in my book

No FTA coverage.. no game coverage on radio... hardly notice them in the newspaper etc etc

There is only one Melbourne (The Demons)  ... all the other sporting teams using our name can go to blazes.

Go Cowboys!!!!!

The professional standards of the NRL and NRL clubs is nowhere near AFL clubs.

The Storm are so good because compared to other NRL clubs they actually are professional, largely as a result of being surrounded by AFL clubs.

I don't hate 'em ... they are just not my team.  I've jumped on the Cowboys because of the great run they've gone on.

The Storm will probably win but what would I know?  I am the world's worst tipster 'adc' so do the opposite.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
