Casey Demons v Williamstown

Featured Replies

Posted

The Casey Demons are at home against top-of-the-ladder Williamstown this Saturday in the Channel 7 game of the round and need the win to keep alive their hopes of a top four finish.

The teams met at Burbank Oval in the opening round of the season when the home side won by 23 points. Casey had Angus Brayshaw, Michael Hibberd, Oscar McDonald and Cam Pedersen among its Melbourne contingent of a dozen. The team makeup will be different this time and the team has matured.

Look out for the return of Tomas Bugg from suspension.

It's also the PINK RIBBON MATCH - please give the cause your support

Hope Wattsy stars.  Shame Salem misses as Williamstown are very very good bunch of VFL players. Joel Tippett still is AFL quality and Siposs is classy.  Close one.

Wonderful!!!!  Watts to press claims at ( CAP) Casey Arctic Park amidst rain, sleet, hail, and all other forms of abominable weather! Yeah great!

Jake Spencer is really going to be missed because when they played Williamstown earlier in the year their ruckman Meese destroyed the Casey team almost singlehanded.

Meese is in great form at the moment too, had 94 hit-outs against Footscray a couple of weeks ago. Gonna be a big test for King and Watts.
No Salem, but I'm expecting Bugg to come out swinging (hopefully not literally)

With Keilty, Frost and Hutchins down back it's gonna be hard for Williamstown to score, but the Gulls are one of only 2 teams to have beaten Casey at Casey Fields in the last 2 years. I'm cautiously optimistic we can win, but it's not gonna be easy.

Very Keen to see how Bugg responds to having 6 weeks to reflect on a poor and costly decision.

Watts is a player I have always loved, I hope he can turn it around this week as he WILL be an important part of the team come finals, when he is on, he is just fantastic to watch.

Hoping Frost destroys the back line (in a positive manner) as he also will be important next week and come finals.

Looking forward to watching the game Saturday, 3rd v 4th

Isn't it great! We finally have a meritocracy at the MFC where players have to earn their spots, and work hard to keep them.

Bodes well for the future.

What?! 94 in one game?! How many stoppages/ goals in that game.

Just pulling up the stats now.

FYI for anyone that is interested, you can download the 'Footy Live' app for IOS which eventually has all the stats from all the high-level games nation wide. AFL, VFL, SANFL, WAFL, NEAFL etc. Its pretty great.

So it was round 15 (3 weeks ago) Williamstown home game, they beat the Dogs 102 - 23. Willy kicked 16.6 where as Footscray kicked 2.11

It doesn't tell me any stoppage stats but the Dogs actually won the inside 50 count 57-45. The disposals, kicks, handballs, marks, and tackles are all about even but Willy had double the Rebound 50's, and obviously for whatever reason the Dogs just wasted all opportunities going forward, probably had some crazy wind down at Burbank Oval that day.

It's hard to know going from this limited information to really tell, but to me it looks to me that even with the ruck dominance (103-37 hit-outs for the day) Footscray's midfield still won the majority looking at the Inside 50's and Rebound 50's count. Its hard to get a good understanding of this game because those are some crazy stats, and without actually seeing it I couldn't tell you exactly but that's what I can extract from the information.

Hopefully being a Casey Home game, even if it is windy we seem to use it well at home so the ruck dominance shouldn't matter too much.

When Casey played Williamstown in Round 1 they lost the hit-outs 83-18, and lost the game by 4 goals. That was at Burbank Oval however, and although you could argue the Casey line up was stronger that day, given Pedo, Hibbo, O.Mac and Bull were playing that day, with Frost and Bugg into the side, along with Casey's current form and home ground advantage, this is absolutely Casey's game to lose.

Sorry for the long winded response, but I do love my footy stats :goody:

Meese's stats on the day were 8 kicks, 9 handballs, 17 disposals, 1 mark, 10 tackles, 1 inside 50, 3 rebound 50s, 4 frees for and 2 frees against ... and yes, 94 hit outs for 183 dream team points.  The Footscray ruckman had 29 hit outs and the Bulldogs are in fourth spot on the ladder.

They won't be lining up like that doc.

Brayshaw, Hannan, Stretch and Wagner are all playing for Melbourne tomorrow and one other will come out as an emergency for that game.

I think it was mentioned that Kennedy was the emergency.

Why isn't this bloke on a rookie list at minimum?  Is he too old?

If he's less than 30, I'd have no hesitation giving him a rookie list spot for 12 months, just as insurance.

This is based on absolutely nothing other than what is written in this thread, but my word, a ruck at VFL to can dominate like that won't be out of place as a back up of a back up ruck in the big league.

I've asked myself the same question, the dude is an absolute beast and destroys anyone he rucks against. He just out-bodies everyone who tries to take him on.

Im not sure the reason he's never been on an AFL list, maybe he's been offered in the past but turned it down because he has a great career already? I don't know, Rookies don't make a lot of money. Also from what I've seen, his endurance is pretty terrible and requires a swap out quite frequently, which doesn't sit well with a lot of AFL coaches. Maybe he likes to drink and smoke a lot, who knows.

He's probably a bit past it now. The bio on the Williamstown FC site says he's 197cm tall, weighs 105kg and turns 29 next month. I regard him as the type who could dominate at VFL level but not quite make it in the big league - a bit like North Ballarat's Orren Stephenson who got a late AFL call up but was unable to make the transition successfully although at times, was used as a back up ruckman with moderate results.

don't get seduced by the hit out numbers, I would think that not many of those hitouts would have been to advantage, most would of been straight down to ruckmans feet, where there would of been stoppage after stoppage to get that many hitouts

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
